Description
The Electric Light Orchestra are one of the most successful British bands of all time. Formed after the break-up of The Move in 1970, they pioneered the integration of orchestral instruments into pop music and released a series of groundbreaking and increasingly successful albums through the seventies that culminated in the multi-million selling "Out Of The Blue". The main concert on this SD Blu-ray release is from the world tour for that album featuring their legendary spaceship stage design and was filmed at London's Wembley Arena in 1978. This show is combined with a wealth of bonus material to give an overview of E.L.O. performances right through the seventies.

Note: A region-free British Blu-ray plays fine on North American systems. I ordered this one as a test, and it works perfectly. It's upscaled and looks very good, but is not a "true" HD picture. The sound is terrific.

The bonus material has been release as The Electric Light Orchestra The Early Years, hasn't it?

The live bonuses, yes:

The Discovery videos weren't on that DVD. (And of course, this new Blu-ray is all in HD, or pseudo-HD.)

The "Discovery" videos were on the original Wembley release, or an updated version after the initial release, something along those lines...:-)

They have been somewhere, for sure. I'm reasonably certain they haven't been previously available in this quality. The Blu is an upgrade.

Agreed...there should be more releases from The Electric Light Orchestra.

My "Electric Light Orchestra Live: The Early Years" DVD does not have "Day Tripper" or "Roll Over Beethoven" in the Rockpalast - 1974 segment, and is also missing "Roll Over Beethoven" from Fusion - 1976.

Does this new release restore those performances?

The original US versions left them off, that's why I got the Region 0 version from the UK. The above version looks to have those songs restored as they should have been in the first place.

Their version of "Day Tripper" was so cool. The Blu-ray looks fantastic. Glad they provided what I believe the full shows and not the edits that others have noted.
