i liked it fairly well. it was neat to hear references we had already heard of from the other ST series.
T'Pau, Khan and the Botany Bay etc. plus i liked the stories chronological arch.
i'd put it in the middle of the franchise from my favorite (1) to least favorite (5)......
1. Star Trek
2. The Next Generation
3. Enterprise
4.Voyager
5 Deep Space 9

on any given week 4 & 5 could switch places. i just never got int them like i did the other three.

The River is getting worse. John is also right about some of the acting. Some of the cast is good, but the mother is awful and the son not good enough. I'll give it another episode.
I will say that this week's Parenthood was amazing-the writing and acting by the whole cast on there blows me away. It's such a good show.

I do like the blonde girl on The River, she is smokin'.

but its all much ado about nothing in the end.
Its been the year of disappointing tv series which includes Terra Nova/ Pan Am/ The Playboy Club/ Alcatrazz/ Revenge and now The River.

No LOST in the bunch. :(

I gave it a try but its basically a "criminal of the week" show with a little sci-fi thrown in to keep ya guessing.

Alcatraz is about to be cancelled according to the TV By The Numbers website.

That sucks about Alcatraz. My wife and I enjoy the show. I can't say I love it, but it is one I make a point to watch and generally enjoy.
I'm glad to see Grimm is likely to be renewed. That's another show that we like.

Yeah-my wife and I both enjoy that a lot. It's not perfect, but it's been entertaining each week. I really like the sidekick and both leads.
It is likely to get renewed.
It will be on tonight-my wife and I will watch because we're getting old and pathetic, and lame!

I had high hope for Terra Nova/ Alcatraz and The River but all 3 just don't have the legs to be a series that will run for years (like LOST).

I'm still sticking with The River for the heck of it.

After seeing this weeks episode of The River, I think this may be the worst show ever on television. What crap!

I used to enjoy seeking out some of the more off-the-wall offerings on cable TV. Things like Furniture to Go (furniture restoration show with a couple of amusing aging hippies) and Trading Spaces (before they started playing with the format and ruining it.) I haven't done as much of this TV treasure hunting since I got married, as my wife prefers dramas and documentaries, but I did stumble across Bitchin' Kitchen the other day. What is this? I only saw parts of two episodes but it seemed like a cross between cooking show and performance art. In one episode the lady who hosts it was making Italian food and talking in an exaggerated New York/Italian accent. The episode after that started with her dressed and acting like a 50's sitcom mom. I haven't watched enough of this show yet to know if it's actually good, but I'm curious to see it again.

Yikes! I remember how excited you were about it too. I have all the episodes DVR'd but I haven't watched any yet. Now I'm bummed.

yeah, I had high hopes for it as it might be actually creepy but it all seems like alot of nonsense as the series moves along. One of those shows where anything can happen (beyond common sense) because its all so supernatural or paranormal.

Poor TV year so far as The Playboy Club/ Pan Am/ Terra Nova/ Alcatraz have all burned for me.

Now I'll try that new NBC show called "Awake".

Is anybody else watching Comic Book Men on A&E? It's a sort of reality show about Jay And Silent Bob's Secret Stash store in Red Bank, NJ. Kevin Smith figures in part of it, but he's not the focus. It really focuses on Walt Flanagan, Brian Johnson, Ming Chen and Mike (I can't remember his last name, but I've met him the times I've been in the store). It's very easy tell that these guys are really friends, the way they bust each other's balls through the show. It's kind of interesting watching what some people bring into the store to sell. There's a fair amount of stuff that people have drastically overvalued, but the real gems are when people bring things in and are surprised to find the value. One guy had a light saber he bought for $60 and was told it was from the original Star Wars movie. They had a Star Wars expert in and he examined it and told the guy it was not a Star Wars light saber, but he was 90% certain it was from The Empire Strikes Back. On the most recent episode, a guy brought in a box of comics he found in his grandmother's house. He didn't know what they were worth - turned out to be likely in the hundreds of thousands. But what was really special was watching Walt and Mike - both major comic book geeks - and their expressions when they saw some of these rare and valuable books, to the point that Walt asked Mike at one point if he ever thought he'd hold this one particular rare book.

Pretty cool seeing a show set in a store I love to visit. And three guys I've actually met in real life.

Side note - Chickenfoot was on the Tonight Show last night. The special thing for me was seeing Mike Keneally guesting on keyboards - I actually know someone who's been on the Tonight Show now. Not that we're bosom buddies or anything, but it's still very cool.

The thing that scared me on the one episode I saw of Comic Men was how crazy Jason Mewes is these days.

I'm more put off by Brian Johnson's behavior. He was going around posting rebuttals to bad reviews and generally being a real dick on the internet. It all culminated this week when his misogynistic behavior on the show and on his podcast were discussed on Kevin Smith's board. Johnson got wind of it and went over and started banning people (apparently Smith gave his friends moderator permissions) and when people started complaining about it, the whole board was shut down.

Seems some people can't handle a little fame.

He should pull a Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and track down the trolls at their houses, then kick them in the nuts.

Dude.... Some of the things I've been hearing about his behavior....

I think he should be locked up as a sex offender if they're true.
