From Anti-Music.com (I still remember seeing this in theaters as a kid and being blown away):
"Let There Be Rock", the AC/DC concert documentary that was filmed December 1979 at the Pavillion De Paris, will receive its long-awaited DVD release in January 2011. Eddie Trunk, the co-host of the VH1 Classic television program "That Metal Show", was interviewed about the band's impact for one of the DVD's bonus features. He writes on his blog, "[The company which is releasing the DVD is] doing some cleanups to the audio and video and making it as high-def as the source will allow." He adds, "I can tell you I have an advance and it looks and sounds great, but they are making it even better!"
According to the All Music Guide, "Let There Be Rock" was released in France a year after it was filmed, though American release was delayed until well after the band had established themselves in the States with new vocalist Brian Johnson and the multi-platinum success of the "Back In Black" album.
In his review of the original "Let There Be Rock" film, Fred Beldin of the All Music Guide writes, "Director Eric Dionysis captures the excitement of the live show with an energetic style and effective close-up shots, though the staged interviews and sub-'The Song Remains The Same' fantasy sequences show the band to be bemused but not convinced by these attempts to add some arty depth to the proceedings. The highlight of the extracurricular segments is Bon Scott, radiating warmth and humility in these last interviews before his untimely death at age 33 from alcohol poisoning."

Great news for AC/DC fans, but why are they announcing this nearly a year in advance? Okay, nine months and a little change, but why not wait until fall? Seems kind of cruel to tease the fans this far in advance.
But it is good to see some classic AC/DC finally making its way to the digital age.

If they are going through all the restoration process for this then they are probably going to release it on Bluray as well as DVD.

Wasn't this concert just a few months before Bon Scott's death?

Very excited about this one. As a teenager, I drove 85 miles to a town that had a theater showing this movie during its original run and sat through it twice in a row.

The only film I sat through twice in a row was The Who Documentary "The kids are alright" I was just too stunned by what I had just seen that I couldn't leave my seat

Just a regular 'ol DVD for me. The extras seem like superflous crap to me-a guitar pick, photos, useless commentary from journalists, and some documentaries I'd never watch and would most likely reveal nothing new. $45 for this? I hope that's just the Blu-Ray price, and I think that's insane either way.

Bump: added pre-order links to the first post. Amazon's price for the Blu-ray is considerably less than what's been mentioned in this thread, and there are no content details listed yet, which makes me wonder if the limited edition version (with the deluxe packaging) might be a third configuration that Amazon has yet to list.

The list price is the same. Amazon's discounted price is why it's less. Also, that's a 2-disk set so that might just be the "deluxe" edition. All the extra docs, interviews, etc could easily fit on a second disk and it wouldn't take anything in the way of special packaging to include a guitar pick. My question is why is it listed that it's in 1.33:1 ratio? I hope that's a mistake.

I owned the VHS that came in that over-sized box from the early '80s, and hadn't watched it in probably 20 years, so it never dawned on me this wasn't shot in widescreen. I never saw it theatrically, but those that did have confirmed elsewhere this is the proper aspect ratio. The Blu-ray has very good detail, but they didn't clean the print and you can see the dirt pop up on many occasions. The sound is very clean and detailed. It's obviously the best its ever looked or sounded, but it's definitely old school production and style. The lighting's not great, and I forgot how much the camera follows Angus around. Btw, the packaging is nice and you get both the Blu-ray and DVD. If you don't want all the collector's stuff, they'll probably release a stand-alone down the road as this set is a limited edition. Here's a review of the Blu-ray: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/AC-DC-Let ... 80/#Review
