Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the Frank Zappa DVD An Evening With Frank Zappa During Which…The Torture Never Stops on November 16. Frank Zappa's New York Halloween 1981 concerts were filmed Live at The Palladium. This "thing" entitled The Torture Never Stops was created in its entirety by FZ from the original concert production and intended by the Artist as one of 3 Television Specials. This is the longest version of the three - the others, "You Are What You Is" and "Dumb All Over", having actually aired. Halloween was Frank Zappa's favorite holiday, and New York was the site of Frank Zappa Halloween concerts for years! The billion and a half airings by MTV of the concerts (non-edited) followed on closely from the release of the double album You Are What You Is in September of that year on Frank Zappa's own recently founded and thoroughly independent label, Barking Pumpkin. Much of the set list is drawn from that work. All Frank Zappa shows were unique experiences with Zappa on guitar and baton, leading his band on flights of improvisation and drawing ever more intense performances from them. And what a band for this show - Steve Vai on stunt guitar, Ray White, Tommy Mars, Scott Thunes, Ed Mann & Bobby Martin! The Torture Never Stops cements Zappa's reputation as one of the most innovative and challenging composers and performers of the 20th century. The line-up for this show features Frank Zappa (guitar, vocal); Ray White (vocal, guitar); Tommy Mars (keyboards, vocal); Scott Thunes (bass, vocal); Chad Wackerman (drums); Ed Mann (percussion, vocal); Bobby Martin (keyboard, sax, vocal) and Steve Vai (guitar, vocal). Bonus Features on The Torture Never Stops include additional performances from the concert and one short film. Truly this is classic Frank Zappa, The Torture Never Stops is a wonderful document that reveals once again a maverick and iconoclastic musical innovator at his best. TRACK LISTING 1) Black Napkins 2) Montana 3) Easy Meat 4) Beauty Knows No Pain 5) Charlie's Enormous Mouth 6) Fine Girl 7) Teen-Age Wind 8) Harder Than Your Husband 9) Bamboozled By Love 10) We're Turning Again 11) Alien Orifice 12) Flakes 13) Broken Hearts Are For Assholes 14) You Are What You Is 15) Mudd Club 16) The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing 17) Dumb All Over 18) Heavenly Bank Account 19) Suicide Chump 20) Jumbo Go Away 21) Stevie's Spanking 22) The Torture Never Stops 23) Strictly Genteel 24) The Illinois Enema Bandit http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043E8Y48/?tag=imwan-20

This is great! I watched this on MTV live in 1981 and I have it on VHS, but there are some glitches. Always loved this show and performance. Plus, you have Vai and Wackerman! This is a just have, but why was it not released in time for Halloween???

I was hesitant for a second after seeing the 1 Amazon review posted, and no mention from ZFT.......but it is also on the Barfko Swill site, so it's legit.
I'm in.
(Was looking for something to add to the new Keith Richards autobio to get free shipping)

Uh, it's been out for about a year or so from Barfko-Swill. I have it sitting on my shelves. Honker label, came with temporary tattoos, No-D glasses, and liner notes by Scott Thunes. I'm not sure if it's edited just from the MTV portion that was broadcast, the whole show, or from both shows that night.
Alan (Ironically, NP - Zappa 10/7/81 from Las Vegas.)

This clearly states it's the whole thing and the longest of the three, and that there are additional performances and a short film. Eagle Rock is 100% professional about all they do, no reason to question this one.

Oh, I don't question it - like I said, I own it. I just don't know if this is from the early show that night or the late show (they did two - audio and video boots of both exist), or if it pulls together a complete show.
Ah...a little digging reveals it's a comp from the two shows that night.

I forgot to mention this (which is what started me on this) - this was originally released by Barfko-Swill and is now going general. There's no real rhyme or reason, it seems, as to what ZFT releases see general release and what releases stay Barfko-exclusive. The two-disc Mofo, this, "Dub Room Special", "Trance-Fusion" all went general. The four-disc Mofo, "Lumpy Money", and Joe's Domage series, among others, have stayed exclusive.

I remember one MTV broadcast of a Halloween show with Steve Vai that included Whippin' Post. Is there an official release of that show?

Too bad it's edited then, if Whipping Post isn't on it......(never saw it on MTV, my town didn't get cable TV until 1989).
Still ordered this.
