The Strange Case Of Alice Cooper is more than a concert film. It is the warped tale of one man's descent into madness, a theatrical rock 'n' roll spectacle that could only emerge from the twisted imagination of Alice Cooper.

Filmed during a stop on the Madhouse Rock Tour in 1979, Strange Case was inspired by Alice's stay in a New York sanitarium and the people he encountered there. Vincent Price introduces the proceedings as ghoulish doctors and transvestite nurses cross paths with dancing bottles of alcohol. All the while, Alice performs songs off his album From The Inside, as well as many of his most well-known and best-loved hits.

Can't believe this is getting a DVD release! I read about this in Dale Sherman's book over a decade ago.

I do hope though that the video quality is better than Shout Factory's other Alice DVD, Good To See You Again, Alice Cooper -- the picture could have used a little sprucing up.

I wonder if there's going to be a Blu ray of this show[like there was of the Good To See You Again release].

Was the blu-ray any better than the DVD? It looked like they did nothing to improve the picture quality on the DVD.

The video on the Blu ray's pretty good but the audio is where it shines imho.

Is this the tour he did with Davey Johnstone? I remember catching a very short bit of it on TV, and when he introduced Davey, he started talking about the "short piano player" Davey usually played with, whereupon Davey started playing "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", ending with Alice threatening him.

I believe so. Elton was "retired" from touring at this point, so it's quite possible.

Funny how Bernie Taupin co-wrote the lyrics on From The Inside and that Davey Johnstone played in Alice's band for a bit.

Wasn't he still drinking in '79? I'm going to want to read a review or 2 of the performance before springing for it. It could be really good, or it could be really bad!

Though I suppose that's what overdubbing is for.........

That was his first sober tour. I read that he does battle with a giant walking liquor bottle during the show. The show is based on his From The Inside album, which documented his experience sobering up in a sanitarium.
