This actually looks like it's just a copy of the Showtime broadcast and it's missing a ton of acts. Man, I'd love a complete Ozzy set instead of the 3 songs that were a part of this. I have the whole Van Halen show and they were great but Roth was horrid. Shame this includes no full sets. I'll probably pass if it surfaces.

From Melodicrock.com:

US FESTIVAL 83 TO DVD:
It seems there is a compilation DVD in the works celebrating the legendary US Festival 1983, which featured bands like Motley Crue, Scorpions, U2, Van Halen and Triumph - the performances from which have been bootlegged for years.
Details are a little sketchy at the moment. I have only picked up on a Japanese release date, but I guess it is bound to be a worldwide release eventually.
Right now King Records Japan will release US Festival 1983 on September 9.
Running 120 minutes, the DVD track list will apparently be: The One Thing - Inxs; The Boys In Town - Divinyls; Goodbye Goodbye - Oingo Boingo; Jeanette - English Beat; Words - Missing Persons; Rock This Town, Please Make Up Your Mind - Stray Cats; Who Can It Be Now, It's A Mistake - Men At Work; Should I Stay Or Should I Go - The Clash; Breakin' The Law, You've Got Another Thing Coming - Judas Priest; Fight The Good Fight, Lay It On The Line, Magic Power - Triumph; Sex (I'm A...)- Berlin; Outside The Rain, Standback - Stevie Nicks; Electric Company, Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2; You Really Got Me, Pretty Woman, Happy Trails - Van Halen; The Zoo - Scorpions; You Can Run - Flock Of Seagulls; Ohio - Pretenders; Life In The Fast Lane - Joe Walsh; Metal Health, Cum On Feel The Noise - Quiet Riot.
Special Features are listed as: bonus tracks - "Fight the Good Fight, World of Fantasy (Triumph)," Can't Get Enough (Scorpions)".
Stay tuned for any updates.
Triumph's appearance at the festival has already been released on DVD by the band independently.

I forgot Triumph's performance has been released - I should look into that.

I have boots of Van Halen and Missing Persons on VHS - my son loved watching Dale Bozzio when he was about 7-8. I think I have Quiet Riot on audio, or perhaps a few of the acts on audio, I'm not really sure. Some good acts, though, that I'd like to see get full releases.

You'd think they'd have learned from the Live Aid release, which I never thought would happen.

IP, there's a movie documentary out of the 80's music portion of the show, I saw it on Starz a month or so ago. Didn't have any of the rock acts, just the music associated with the 80's.

Something like this needs to be given better treatment. Granted you can't include the full sets of all bands over this 3 day event, but certainly a 3-4 DVD compilation would do it more justice. The tracklist on this Japanese DVD looks very close to what aired recently on the VH1 Classic Us Festival program. It's so close, it would almost appear that certain songs were given "clearance" for broadcast and release from this festival.

The 3DVD bootleg in circulation of 1983 show will be hard to beat not to mention there are many full sets available as well. What I'm looking for is footage from the 1982 Us Festival. The Police and Pat Benatar are the only 2 full sets I've seen in circulation... anyone else come across other footage?

This interests me, but I'm afraid of the likely price for a Japan import.

I remember when they showed the three songs from VH on Showtime I thought that was the coolest thing I'd ever seen (I was just become a teenager at the time)... VH was headlining the festival, while playing in their Southern California back yard, and were paid $1M for this single performance,,,which I think is still a record today. What I didn't know at the time was how hammered the band was. And because of that, the three songs that aired from their set were souped up in post production with the bands participation. It's actually noted in the credits of the Showtime broadcast, which I have. I also have the entire 2hr. set on VHS which shows why they chose to soup up those songs for broadcast. But what a cool show, even with all its flaws...

Btw, this DVD looks to be all the stuff that aired on the Showtime packages, which were broken into highlights of each day of the festival (Heavy Metal Day, New Wave Day, etc.) Here's a link to the US Festival site, which has a list of all the performances, along with some clips and photos.
