Released 24/11/08. Renaissance were originally formed in the late 1960’s by ex-Yardbirds members Keith Relf, and Jim McCarty but both eventually departed leaving the classic line-up of Annie Haslam (Vocals), John Tout (piano), Jon Camp (bass pedals/Vocals) and Terence Sullivan (drums).
The later line-up were responsible for the groups most recognized albums Prologue (1972), Ashes Are Burning (1973) and Turn Of The Cards (1975) and Scheherezade and Other Stories (1976) which gained the group a significant fanbase in the US and led to hits in many other countries including UK top ten single Northern Lights. Song Of Scheherezade features a classic live show from the band during a 1976 US tour.

Capitol Theatre, Passiac, New Jersey 21st May 1976 - Running Hard / Ocean Gypsy / Carpet Of The Sun / Mother Russia / Prologue / Song Of Scheherezade Medley: Sultan / The Young Prince And The Young Princess / The Festival / Convention Hall, Asbury Park, New Jersey, 28th July 1979 / The Vultures Fly High / Jekyll And Hyde / Northern Lights / Forever Changing / Secret Mission / A Song For All Seasons / Flood At Lyons

Wow, I saw the Capitol Theatre and Asbury Park shows. I will be ordering this immediately!

Thanks Emmodad, this slipped right past me. Cherry Red does a good job reissuing Cds so..... I hope we have something here. Either case, as you stated I will take anything I can get on this band. By the way, I saw them at Radio City, NY as well.

I don't remember the date of the KBFH official cd release, but I hope this is a different show.

:sigh: :ohno: :sigh: :ohno: :sigh: :ohno: :sigh:

sadly, reviews on amazon UK are saying that initial pressing of the DVD is crap due to an incomprehensible mastering error which used wrong sample rate for audio, lowering by roughly an octave; Annie Haslam's voice "is now reminiscent of a black male blues singer." http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001GB67WC/?tag=imwan-21

ahem. what was that thing called quality control?

Cherry Red has stated that they are repressing with corrected audio.

Cherry Red has stated that they are repressing with corrected audio.

They've "lowered" the cover artwork as well, for some reason. The initial solicitation showed a pretty nice cover with multiple live photos of Renaissance, now it's just a solid colour, generic design. (Updated cover image in first post.)

I'm getting really nervous herre and VERY disappointed. I really wanted this one, now it's in limbo.

If anyone gets updates please post.

Thanks,
Rick A.

got it. to cherry red's credit, they not only fixed the audio problem, but appear to have added more content to the original DVD (which was issued late 2008 and then recalled). now 125 minutes from the two shows (1976 Passaic and 1979 Asbury Park).

all video is 1970's vintage b/w and occasionally artifacted; much is stage-shot, or just front-of-stage; audio from the 1979 Asbury Park concert is better SQ than that from the 1976 Passaic show. neither is even remotely close to audiophile... but this is quite a restoration achievement from 1970s-era videotape. showed it to a pro vid editing buddy (and 70s Renaissance fan from Philadelphia like me), he said it was definately not shabby transfer and restoration, considering the historical source.

fantasy: would I love 1970s Renaissance recorded with 2009 technology on Blu-ray? OMG yes. do i wish this DVD had a performance of Ashes are Burning? yeah, that's one of my personal video Holy Grails. but this is a fine historical document, and i for one will take any video of the band which I can find.

if you like Renaissance, this corrected DVD is now a recommended purchase. not only is Annie Haslam in fine voice, and the band(s) as a whole tight; but the 76 show in particular is a reminder that Jon Camp is a fine bassist.
