Product Description As hard as it is to imagine, there was a world before Monty Python. And just like any other great historical epoch--the Jurassic Period, the Age of Chivalry, The Dawn of Disco--scholars have invested hundreds of hours examining the Rise of Python: that brief shining moment before the world knew how brilliant buffoonery could be.
Watch, laugh and learn:
Before the Flying Circus: Rare vintage footage and interviews trace the pre-Monty Python influences that honed the wit of the future Pythons and shaped their destinies as the world's most innovative comedy partnership.
Monty Python Conquers America: This is the story of the OTHER British invasion--the funny one. Monty Python's astonishing American success was due as much to the passion of well-placed fans as it was to a string of absurdly lucky breaks. Being really, REALLY funny helped some, too. Featuring interviews with the Pythons, Hank Azaria, Jimmy Fallon, David Hyde Pierce, and others.http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002KGREF6/?tag=imwan-20

For those interested, this set consists of the two new documentary bonus discs included with the most recent version of the Complete Monty Python Megaset that came out in 2008 ( http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E77XNA/?tag=imwan-20): 1) Before the Flying Circus; and 2) Monty Python Conquers America. Here's some details on those discs courtesy of a review of the Complete Monty Python at dvdtalk.com ( http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/35481/co ... egaset-the): " Before The Flying Circus is an interesting look at what the principal cast were up to before they started the now famous comedy troupe. Witness some early homes movies and plenty of clips and bits from early, preliminary comedy sketches. There are some neat archival photos used here as well as interviews with the likes of Humphrey Barclay, Ronnie Corbett, David Frost, Robert Hewison, Aimi McDonald, Davis Nobbs, Dennis Norden and Shiela Steafel. If you've ever wanted to know how and where it all began, this is definitely worth a watch." (Although a new documentary, this one appears in black and white for stylistic reasons) " Monty Python Conquers America: This is the most recent feature in the collection. It's essentially a look at the influence that Monty Python had (and still has) over American pop culture then and now. Aside from interviews with those who were there and saw it happen, we get insight from the likes of Judd Apatow, Hank Azaria, Richard Bowman, Carol Cleveland, Jimmy Fallon, David Hyde Pierce, Howard Kissel, Trey Parker, Carl Reiner, Matt Stone, Luke Wilson and more." Both documentaries rely in large part on interviews with the surviving Pythons, so the references to the other interviewees should not be taken to mean that the surviving Pythons did not participate!

So today at Discorama, when Willy shoved a Python DVD box set under my nose, I assumed I was buying this, but instead wound up with the below, which apparently is a miniseries running on the IFC channel: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002FE5XU6/?tag=imwan-20Product Description Monty Python reunites in this outrageous comedy and also features some of today's biggest comedians including Jimmy Fallon, Eddie Izzard, Dan Aykroyd, and Seth Green. The Pythons are matched against their contemporaries: rock stars, comedians, actors, politicians, Python-haters and potential axe murderers, in this never-before-seen outrageous comedy from the biggest comedy troupe of all time. Watch as Monty Python is brought to life on-screen in this six part mini-series which is airing on the IFC Chanel. The Monty Python troupe includes John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Graham Chapman. Almost the Truth retells the entire Python phenomenon from start to finish Every opinion on Monty Python will be brought to life on-screen for the first time with never-before-seen material. Dozens of featured guest interviews will include Jimmy Fallon, Lorne Michaels, Hugh Hefner, Eddie Izzard, Olivia Harrison, Steven Merchant, Dan Aykroyd, Tim Roth, Seth Green, among many others. First time the Pythons have come together since 1983. Contains all new interviews. Features the famous Life Of Brian TV Debate from 1979

Beachy wrote: Heh. That site has an unusual Editorial Review describing Gunnery Sergeant, drill instructor, Vietnam veteran, actor and former Mail Call host R. Lee Ermey. Which, would be pretty darn cool if he was covering Monty Python AS AN ACTUAL INVASION. Amazon has now removed that erroneous (but oddly appropriate) description and replaced it with the correct info about this being a two-documentary set, matching what Jay said above. Also, the title of this DVD set has been shortened, with the "Highly Unlikely Rise Of ..." part having been removed.
