Beatles Cirque du Soleil doc coming in October
By JESSICA LETKEMANN
Billboard.com
NEW YORK — “All Together Now,” the documentary chronicling the
Beatles-based Cirque du Soleil production “Love,” has been set for
near-simultaneous release on Oct. 20 and 21 in theaters and on DVD.
The 84-minute doc, which includes interviews with Paul McCartney,
Ringo Starr, George Martin, Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison and others, will
come to digital theaters one day ahead of EMI Music’s release of a
bonus feature-laden DVD. The latter will be available only at Best Buy
and at the Love Boutique at the Mirage in Las Vegas.
The “Love” project, which was the brainchild of the late George
Harrison and Cirque du Soleil’s Guy Laliberte, resulted in the popular
2006 show, which is still playing at Las Vegas’ Mirage. “All Together
Now,” directed by Adrian Wills, follows “Love” from inception
through rehearsals and into its finished incarnation.
Beatles’ producer George Martin, who is also a principal in the
DVD’s featurette “Changing the Music,” is shown in the main film
shaping the group’s classics together into new mash-ups that McCartney
called “magical” upon their 2006 debut. The DVD also includes two
additional featurettes, “Music in the Theatre” and “Making Love.”<QA>
The Beatles’ “Love” soundtrack reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200
in 2006 and spent over a year on the chart.

I'd try to avoid it until you see the show. LOVE is best when seen without preview. I promise! :ohyes:

I saw tons of these for sale at BB yesterday for $19.99. No one seemed to be buying them. I think its over-priced for a documentary thats essentially a slaes pitch for the Vegas show. If it was priced $9.99 I would have bought one.

I'm hoping we'll see some big discounts on this thing before or after Christmas.

Again, my suggestion would be that anyone who plans to see the actual LOVE show should put off watching this DVD until they see the show. It's kinda like watching a movie's "Making of" special feature before viewing the actual film. Trust me; you'll want to take in all the LOVE show has to offer before watching the "All Together Now" documentary.

I'd love it if they brought this show to Cirque du Soleil's venue in Orlando. Unfortunately it is instead on the opposite side of the country from where I live, in a city my spouse has zero interest in visiting. Right now it looks like a DVD may be as close as I get to this, but I hope I'm wrong.

Hey DanO, I wanted to follow your suggestion here but maybe once a year my girlfriend would suggest a purchase so there it is.

I will have to say though, I HAVE to go in see this! :yay: What a production! We haven't gone on a proper vacation in a bit (living in Florida does spoil you) but this show will change that.

Have you seen this show more than once? And how much lead time does one need to plan for ticket purchase? And one last thing, is their a better section to order tickets over another?

Thanks,
Rick A.

Bannings: Banned??? Moi???
I wound up returning the U2 Under a Blood Red Sky set at Best Buy this week (long story), so I turned around and spent the money on this Beatles DVD. As if I could live without it--c'mon! :sigh:

Hey Rick,

Here is a link to an IMWAN discussion that should answer most of your questions. I've seen LOVE six times and I'd be ready to go again tonight! That's how great it is!
Not sure how much lead time one would need for tix, but I'm sure it varies. On the one year anniversary, we showed up on the stand-by line because Paul & Ringo were there that night and we wound up with four seats together in something like the 6th or 7th row! That being said - there have been times when all the best seats were sold out online two months before a show date. I'm almost certain they always hold standby tix for high rollers (and then release them just before showtime if they're unused).

Thanks DanO. Six times, Wow! You know, with so much going on and the different angles one would see upon multiple times in attendence I can see how this would never, ever be dull. If I can go next year I will give you a heads up!

Thanks for all the info!

Rick A.

There's a four month lead on the show for tickets. I can't wait to order mine for late June 2009 but I have to wait till the Spring.

Great show. Saw it first, then caught this documentary on Sundance CHannel last year. It's interesting in that order. I grabbed the DVD mainly for the extended featurette on the remixing of the music with Giles and George Martin. Haven't watched it yet.

I'll wait to see this DVD. They probably have it on sale at the Mirage so maybe I'll buy it there when I'm in town. Would make a nice souvenir.

Good idea, DanO is probably quite right here. Thanks for the info on lead time, with this bad economy and Vegas really hurting we might find some good deals next year.
