I loved this show back then...

From what I've read about past Warner Archive releases, I'm going to assume that these are DVD-Rs and not pressed DVDs.

Still, to finally have the complete series in one set in decent quality will be worth it to me.

Still waiting for the Batman series to see the light of day...

That one may never come out, due to rights issues, licensing issues, issue issues...

Just sad...

If it ever gets released, I hope there's still a physical format to release it on.

I used to watch it in the 80s when AFTRS used to play it on Saturday mornings... I love the box art up there, too.

Jerry Ordway's variant cover to SHAZAM!: The Complete Series

Mimicking comics in more ways than one, Warner Archive is offering a variant cover to its upcoming release of Shazam!: The Complete Series. The standard cover features a photo collage of the series’ main actors (see below), but the variant will have artwork by Jerry Ordway, creator of DC’s well-regarded Power of SHAZAM! series from the late ’90s.

It’s pretty smart marketing, too, because according to Super Hero Hype (who’ve confirmed with Warner Archive), the Ordway cover is only available to those who pre-order the series before its release date on Oct. 23. A lot of older fans have fond memories of watching the live-action show over a bowl of Fruity Pebbles on Saturday mornings, but haven’t seen it since and don’t know if it’s as good or fun as they remember. Younger fans don’t know what it’s like at all. Waiting to hear some buzz by others who’ve seen the new DVDs before spending $34.95 on the set is a reasonable strategy, but the Ordway cover makes it more enticing to go ahead and plunk down that $35 on a blind buy. Fortunately, we have more than a month to make up our minds.

Warner Archive isn’t so cruel as to make this the only way to get the art from Ordway’s cover, though: The Warner Archive podcast has a promotion going where you can get a poster version for free.

Does this have any of the Isis crossovers?

It's supposed to contain all 29 episodes, so I would guess that's a "yes."

I think it's interesting they put Jackson Bostwick on the cover art, but not John Davey.

I remember these being pretty red cheesy, but Joanna Cameron was gorgeous as ISIS.

Rumor is that the initial batch at WB Shop will also be pressed DVDs. But no way to know how many will be in that initial pressed batch.

Yes. But they have announced via Twitter that many multi-disc sets will have an initial run of pressed discs, which has reportedly been true for Alice Season 1, Forbidden Hollywood Vol. 4, Forbidden Hollywood Vol. 5, etc.

It seems pretty obnoxious for Warner to be playing the "reportedly been true" card or "rumours has it that ..." in the Internet age. Either there's confirmation or there isn't. Either there's a specific initial run of real DVDs or there isn't. If we order a title but it arrives as a DVD-R, well, we weren't fast enough, or we weren't lucky enough, or "many" titles do have limited real DVD runs but not this one, or the factory-pressed run was just a rumour all along?

At least with this one we're allegedly guaranteed the limited Jerry Ordway cover ... which is reportedly true ... as rumour has it.
