Description
U2, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Blondie, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, The Clash, The Cure: Over half a billion records sold but you may never have heard of them if not for a small suburban radio station on Long Island, NY: WLIR. In August, 1982, a small group of radio visionaries knew they couldn't compete with the mega-stations in New York City. With one brave decision, they changed the sound of radio forever. In this riveting and star studded documentary, Program Director Denis McNamara, the 'LIR crew and the biggest artists of the era tell the story of how they battled the FCC, the record labels, corporate-radio and all the conventional rules to create a musical movement that brought the New Wave to America. The dynamic soundtrack includes more than 50 songs from the era and a new original theme song by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts!

I saw this a few months ago on Showtime I think. Very enjoyable. I was living in upstate ny at the time so I didn't get a chance to hear this station. Truthfully, I probably wouldn't have cared for this music anyway. It wasn't until the '90's that new wave really started doing it for me. I'm usually a decade or two behind the times!

That station saved my wife and me from hair metal.

Great documentary!

I was lucky to attend the premiere on Long Island with much the cast and crew, it was a blast! This will make a nice Christmas gift.

I also saw it on Showtime. I used to listen to WLIR a lot. They weren't always a new wave station. I enjoyed them a lot more when they were playing more classic acts and punk bands. They were a great station though with some great DJs and great live broadcasts.

Saw this on Showtime too. It brought back great memories. NY Metro Radio would be dead it wasn't for WFUV and WXPK The Peak.

I saw this recently too and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tragically one of the DJ's interviewed in the movie, Jeff Beck (Carlson), who was my neighbor and friend for the last 4 years, passed away a couple of months ago from a brain tumor.
