Just saw this documentary on the Independent Film Channel a couple days ago and enjoyed it immensely! I'm sure almost everyone here knows of Tom Dowd. I have known of him for many years, but never really understood the magnitude of his work. In this documentary, you can see his love and respect of music and the people who made it (as well as his passion and sheer brilliance.) I really wonder how many producers there have ever been like him. [title]TOM DOWD & THE LANGUAGE OF MUSIC[/title] profiles the extraordinary life and legendary work of music producer / recording engineer Tom Dowd. Historical footage, vintage photographs and interviews with a who's who list of musical giants from the worlds of jazz, soul and classic rock shine a spotlight on the brilliance of Tom Dowd, whose creative spirit and passion for innovative technology helped shape the course of modern music. Tom Dowd's credits include recording sessions with Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Otis Redding, John Coltrane, The Allman Brothers Band, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Cream, Rod Stewart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Booker T. & the MG's and countless other musical luminaries. Includes Music & Interviews with Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, The Allman Brothers Band, Les Paul, Otis Redding, Thelonious Monk, Booker T. & the MG's & many more! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00011ZBOS/?tag=imwan-20

You MUST get the DVD. It has over an hour of extra and extended interview clips. Essential viewing for music nuts like us.

Thanks for reminding me about this. I'll need to rent the DVD.

Amazon lists two different versions of the DVD (the one linked in the initial post and a 2-disc version from 2006, available only through 3rd party sellers, which is too pricey for me.) Am I correct in assuming that it is the 2-disc version, which includes the bonus material you mentioned, RS?

Nope...the one disc version. Never knew there was a 2-disc version. Wonder what's on there.

The single disc version is in the right price range for me AND the bonus material makes it even more worthwhle. (And, even though the 2 disc set is out of my price range, I too am curious as to its content.)
