The Blake Babies to Reunite Behind Rarities Collection 'Earwig Demos'
While Juliana Hatfield recently teamed-up with Paul Westerberg to deliver a debut collection as the I Don't Cares, the indie rock vet will also be preserving part of her legacy via an upcoming rarities set with her '80s outfit, the Blake Babies. The band have announced that they'll be playing some shows in the near future to support a collection of early recordings simply titled Earwig Demos.
The Blake Babies announced the news today (February 19) over Facebook, where it was revealed that they've launched a Pledge Music campaign to fund the project.
It's explained that the band had entered Cambridge, MA's Fort Apache Studios in March of 1988 to record demos of the songs that would become their 1989 LP, Earwig. These early tapes had sat in a basement for nearly thirty years before the band "rescued the recordings," remixing and remastering the sessions for Earwig Demos.
Drummer Freda Love Smith (credited on Earwig as Freda Boner) said of the upcoming release: "I was happily surprised that, to my ears, the versions of the songs on the demos are in some cases better than the versions of the songs on the final product."
Hatfield also added a few words to the vid, explaining that she's proud of what the band had accomplished. "We poured our little hearts into all of it and we hope that you enjoy this," she said.
The band will be delivering Earwig Demos on traditional black wax and a limited colour pressing. They're also offering up various bundles and incentive packages through Pledge Music, from digital copies and sealed copies of older LPs including Sunburn, to signed lyric sheets, to coffee with the band, or the possibility of holding a Blake Babies reunion concert at your home.

The Blake Babies formed in the mid '80s Boston alt-rock scene. Their ranks had at one point included Lemonheads leader Evan Dando. They'd issue a handful of EPs and albums before splitting up in 1991.
A reunion in the early '00s yielded the band's most recent release, God Bless the Blake Babies.
