I'll be in - when it's actually released.
My favorite comment on zappa.com about this was "I'll buy it when it's released. I'm a consumer, not an investor."

The last album Frank Zappa completed before his death from cancer on Dec. 4, 1993, will be released in June. According to JamBase, Dance Me This will be the late artist’s 100th official release. Buzz about the record first started making the rounds more than a decade ago. As JamBase notes, Dance Me This was “the last title FZ finished in 1993 along with Trance-Fusion; the last chapter in his Master Work, Civilization, Phase III; and of course, The Rage & The Fury, The Music of Edgard Varèse.” While no set date has been given for the album’s release, it will most likely ship around June 1, according to pre-order info. There’s little detail on the official site, but JamBase points out that Zappa discussed the project with Guitarist Magazine in June 1993, just six months before his death. “What I’m working on right at the moment is a Synclavier album called Dance Me This, which is designed to be used by modern dance groups,” he said at the time. “It’s probably not going to come out until next year.” There’s been nearly three dozen posthumous Zappa albums released by his estate over the past decade. Supposedly, promo cassettes for Dance Me This first surfaced in 2004, even though the record never made it to the public. Track titles include “Pachuco Gavotte,” “Goat Polo” and five movements of “Wolf Harbor.” Like Zappa’s latter-day work (who are we kidding? Like almost all of his work), Dance Me This includes some challenging pieces that were almost impossible to pull off onstage. Fans have been waiting a long time to hear these tracks (a few have surfaced over the years, but many have not), and to finally complete Zappa’s long legacy. I can't imagine this isn't mentioned somewhere on here, but I searched multiple times and couldn't find a link, so if there already is one I apologize.

Collectors corner - but the more talk - the more they will sell and the more they sell the more other stuff they will issue...right?

With the avalanche of material issued since Zappa's passing, there was still a completed studio album sitting in the vaults?

It's hard to believe that a final Frank Zappa album isn't going to be in general release, but as of yet there's no sign of it anywhere but the above link.

It's how Gail and the ZFT have decided to handle things. It's great to get more material, but they make it such an aggravating process - high shipping fees, cryptic messages about releases and release dates, much-wanted projects sitting in the vault. Ridiculous marketing ideas (Roxy By Proxy).
There's at least a Varese project that hasn't been released, the Roxy movie, and more recorded shows than most of us fans could really digest in the rest of our lifetimes.

Jimbo wrote: With the avalanche of material issued since Zappa's passing, there was still a completed studio album sitting in the vaults? Towards the end FZ had some hearing issues that is pretty well documented - most Zappateers know this and it is evident in some of the early Ryco discs. There has been great speculation why both this and the Rage & the Fury have sat on the shelf for so very long. It is synclavier so perhaps the market for it is not as great but they have released other synclaiver projects in the meanwhile. I am more interested in other vault releases - live concerts, out takes, other unrealized projects - enhanced box sets (Uncle Meat, Hot Rats, the Original 12 record Set, Apostrophe(')) - and the film/dvd/complete 4 or 5 concert run that comprised Roxy & Elsewhere. So for this one - it is just to get it out there so we can move onto the next release which IMO s/b more interesting. The aforementioned Rage & Fury is FZ conducting the music of Edgar Varese. Unsure what the hold up is. Legal issues. Rumor has it that the film of the project went missing (stolen) and that could also be part of the reason. Also there are tons of unrealsed synclaiver music still in the vault but from what I understand - that technology is now ancient and it might be difficult to recover (the previous synclaiver post-released material was prepared at sometime by FZ). I'd also sign up for the BIG BOX - the complete 88 tour with rehearsals and sound checks...if I hit Power Ball - I'll go talk to Gail about that one.

Warning - this release contains throat singing - that might not appeal to the general public.

Yeah - you know a lot of times I forget that...but then I remember that is why these releases are down in the Collectors Corner - me thinks the ZFT could do better by selling these releases from out of a car trunk or at a flea market...in the middle of a Tuesday night.

Quote: Dear People of Earth,
Just in time for FZ’s half birthday we are pleased to confirm that we WILL commence shipping Dance Me This the week of the Summer Solstice. Until then, the pre-order shall remain in effect.
And let’s also talk about ZAPPA 101: 200 MOTELS, Conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, performed at Disney Hall by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
And yes. There will be Vinyl.
And we hope to see you at the Movies!
