From SA-CD.net:
"8 ROXY MUSIC SHM~SACDs Announced by Universal Japan"
"Word is there are Deluxe Editions of the first two albums coming in the first half of 2015, the first album at least with a Steven Wilson 5.1 mix, possibly the other release of the two to have 5.1 also."
".....the Bowie back catalogue and I've been chasing up leads on it. apparently the albums from 69-80 are to get the Hi-Res/surround treatment with Tony Visconti at the helm. Nothing confirmed yet but that's what I've been told by a very reliable source."
My take is the Japan Roxy SACD's are likely on, the rest is rumor, but certainly within the realm of possibility. Steven Wilson early Roxy's would be omg!

Isn't that two different things? Wilson doing Roxy would be UK releases, no? The SHM-SACDs are usually prepared in-house.

It's fine, Pete. This can become the Steve Wilson Roxy Music remasters thread once we have release details.

I'm just as interested in the Bowie rumor. Visconti does NOT tend to brickwall; & I'd LOVE to have the RCA Bowie's in Hi-res. The Ziggy DVD-A was superb (other than the bonus tracks, which were twice as loud as the album!).

We must not mish-mosh on the release boards, Geff.

I'm excited about the Bowie stuff in 5.1
Bring on 'The Man Who Sold The World' in true 5.1
Hope they are either DVD or BluRay. I am well and trully over SACD. SACD is a format that is not compatible with most players I own and the few SACDs I own in 5.1 are very dificult to actually get them to sound right. I have tried different amps, 2 different SACD players and have still not been able to hear them in true 5.1

I don't have the capability for 5.1, but as far as 2.0, I've found the sound of SACD vs dvd-a vs blu to be based solely on the mastering & recording quality.
SACD is the hardest to rip (in fact i am incapable of ripping an SACD).

I would hope their is a Blu-Ray option as that's the easiest to play and it sounds good. I have a separate SACD player but rarely use it as I have to reset my amp with different settings and its a bit of a pain.
My system is set up for Blu or DVDA at all times, so it's just easier to throw on.

Apparently the 8 studio SHM SACD's were just released at the end of last month. They are VERY expensive on CD Japan (just under 4k yen each) I have seen Japanese SHM CD's of the Roxy studio catalog. Per the liner notes they are brand new "flat transfers" originally done in dsd & then down sampled for cd. Unlike the previous Japan Roxy box, these are NOT brickwalled (The Siren cd is a DR14!!) I would love to get the SACD's. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/products?term. ... 015&page=1

Moving this to CC until we have something definitive on the Steven Wilson front.

There really is Japanese SACD Roxy product. Probably should be in Vaults.

Japan-only product goes here, otherwise that board would drown with endless mini LP sleeve reissues.
Again, this thread is a mish-mosh in any case. (Roxy and Bowie and Possibly.) When we have some proper Wilson remasters, new threads will likely be in order. Just retitle this Roxy Music Japanese SACDs or something.

That said ... I'm glad we have some (possible) warning about Wilson versions this time. With the Yes Japanese SACDs, I don't think we knew at the time that Steven Wilson was working on surround editions.

As i just spent $243 on ebay to get the complete set of SACD's (I don't believe I did that) Wilson had BETTER NOT re-do them!

This is just a first impression of 1st play of the Stranded SACD. I can't do a DR on factory pressed SACD; but to my ears it sounds quite loud. The liner notes say that it is supposed to be a flat transfer, & I have read that the equivalent SHM CD is a DR 12, so not sure what's up, but so far it is quite loud. The guy who sold me them said did say he wasn't overly thrilled with the sound........ Will post more after more listening. Edit: the problem may just be that the first song was really loud (it was), & I've been listening to too much high quality Steven Wilson lately Will post more after lots more listening. I got the entire set except for Avalon which wasn't offered & I already have the European SACD.

I'm onto the debut now. So far it sounds better & completely different than Stranded, which leads me to believe they really were flat transfers. If so, Stranded is one of the brightest early 70's recordings I've ever heard!
Stranded had 2 really screechy songs: Street Life & Stranded. The rest (quieter songs) sounded ok. So far, the debut sounds pretty good, including the first song which is a rocker, but not screechy like the rockers on Stranded.
That's why I was originally a bit upset; randomly Street Life was the first song I played! Fortunately it's been uphill from here. I have a SUSPICION that unless Wilson, APO or MFSL does does these, this may be the best we'll get.
As AF mostly seems to go for hits, the only one I could see them doing is Avalon, or maybe Heart Still Beating (which would be very cool).

I posted the following on another board. While I still haven't played 3 of the 7, this will likely be my last post on the subject unless any of the 3 I haven't yet played sounds stellar.
Warning: these are pretty disappointing. The liner notes state "flat transfer"; but of the 4 I've played so far Stranded & Country Life are most definitely not FT's. The rockers on both of those sound screechy. It is possible that the equivalent of the mixing engineer did ft's & the mastering house felt the need to add a ton of upper midrange boost, but I am extremely disappointed in those 2 (I have played 4 so far).
On the other side, if anything the debut sounds a bit muddy, & For Your Pleasure sounds the best of the 4, but it's not revelatory. I'm a huge Roxy fan, so I spent $245 on ebay for 7 of the 8 (I already have the old SACD of Avalon) & am quite disappointed. The guy who was auctioning them did warn me he wasn't thrilled with them. I had hoped between the supposed flat transfers & the fact that the cd's from the same mastering have decent DR scores, they'd be ok; but they're not.
There is a rumor that Steven Wilson is going to be redoing the Roxy catalog; they'll probably sound awesome if it happens; but I can't count how many times I've bought this catalog (let's see; USA LP, Japan LP, USA cd, UK remastered cd, UK box set (the best version out there; probably about equal quality to this SACD set, but with different pro's & con's), & this new SACD set. They really should give frequent flyer rebates, as I collect the best sounding versions of artists I like, & I'm in my late 50's, there are numerous albums I've purchased 5-10 times.
I still haven't played Flesh & Blood, manifesto or Siren.
These are the worst sounding Japan Universal SHM's I've EVER heard. Some of the other Japanese labels have been starting to brickwall the SHM CD's, but this is one of the few times I've run into subpar sounding Universal Japan SHM's. (I originally wrote the first time, & then I remembered the mediocre Three Dog Night SHM's).
