September 4, 2013 release date.

Collector's box set of YES includes their complete 13 albums (15 discs) and a bonus disc featuring SACD Hybrid and remastering in 2013. Also includes a description and lyrics. Included albums:

1. Yes (1969)
2. Time and a Word (1970)
3. The Yes Album (1971)
4. Fragile (1971)
5. Close to the Edge (1972)
6 & 7. Yessongs (1973)
8 & 9. Tales from Topographic Oceans (1973)
10. Relayer (1974)
11. Going for the One (1977)
12. Tormato (1978)
13. Drama (1980)
14. 90125 (1983)
15. Big Generator (1987)
Bonus Disc:
1. Something's Coming
2. Dear Father
3. Roundabout
4. America
5. Total Mass Retain
6. Soon
7. Abilene
8. Run Through the Light
9. Run With the Fox
10. Owner of a Lonely Heart
11. Leave It
12. Big Generator

The wording of the description is pretty awkward as to if all the discs are Hybrid SACDs, but the product description at HMV Japan indicates that they are. Interesting timing on a set like this with Steven Wilson reportedly going to jump in and start doing 5.1 mixes of the Yes catalog, but would Wilson ever get around to doing all the albums in this set (Yes, Tormato, Big Generator)?

As I've mentioned elsewhere, HD tracks has already done the following in 192/24:
Close To The Edge
Going For The One
Yes Album
Tormato (96/24 only)
Yes Shows
Fragile (96/24 only)
Big Generator
Relayer
90214 (44/24 only)

There is also a Japan SACD of at least Fragile already out.

And we also have Hoffman doing several of them............. + the theoretically upcoming Wilson's

Not criticizing this batch, just more finding it interesting that so many versions of the Yes catalog are coming out in hi res.

Might be interested if these had 5.1 mixes, but I will pass.

Yes / High Vibration 16 SACD box set from Warner Music Japan

July 24, 2013 by Paul Sinclairtags: 1970s, SACD, Yes

Yes / High Vibration 16 SACD box set

Okay, brace yourselves… Warner Music Japan are about to release one of the most expensive music box sets ever featured on SuperDeluxeEdition.

High Vibration is a limited edition 16 SACD (Super Audio CD) box set, featuring the 13 albums released by English prog rock supergroup Yes, between 1968 and 1987, including live album Yessongs. A unique 12-track bonus SACD features rare selections such Owner of a Lonely Heart (Move Yourself Mix) from 1991 and 1972′s Total Mass Retain (single version) is also included.

Everything has been newly remastered in Japan by Isao Kikuchi, and these SACDs are packaged as mini-LP CDs (a.k.a. paper sleeves / vinyl replica). If you own The Beatles in Mono box set, you will know how good these are.

The SACDs are all hybrid discs [compatible with all CD players] with the SACD layer offering hi-res 96khz/24bit and the CD layer delivering the usual 44.1kHz/16bit.

The good news is this also comes with a 200-page book. The bad news is that it’s in Japanese.

At the time of writing High Vibration is available on various non-Japanese amazon sites as an expensive import – it’s over $500 in the USA and Canada and £488 in the UK. In Germany the current price is around £450. Those high prices are likely to drop at some point, given that at just under 40,000 Yen locally, the equivalent pound sterling figure is around £260. That probably equates to nearer £350 when you factor in shipping, UK import duties and ‘handling fees’, so at the moment it’s just over a £100 premium for the convenience of shopping via Amazon in your local territory.

Whether it is ‘worth’ paying the much money for this set, is up to the individual. The presentation will undoubtedly be excellent, and being a Japanese release offers appeal and exclusivity. The Robert Palmer Island Years paper sleeve box from 2007 has some similarities – unique mastering, only available in Japan – and that is now worth a small fortune.

High Vibration is released on 4 September 2013.

• UK Pre-order: High Vibration
• USA Pre-order: High Vibration
• CANADA Pre-order: High Vibration
• GERMANY Pre-order: High Vibration

If Warner Japan starts doing SACD box sets for a lot of artists ... oh, man.

$563 bucks! Yikes, too rich for my blood though I can do SACD. Like the Moody Blues set ($354), once they get above $100, I'm out. Only Jimbo can afford this stuff. :)

I'm sure I'll end up getting it eventually. Hopefully some vender will offer it at a super low price, like the Moody Blues set was sold at Amazon's German site...

I don't have a SACD player but have been thinking about getting one, and this might be the excuse I need.

Anyone know anything about Isao Kikuchi? If he has a good reputation of doing quality remasters I will probably order a copy.

See above link for information regarding some of the equipment used to do the new remasters.

Joseph, you may already know this, but if your concern is sound quality (as opposed to 5.1), a $100 SACD player is a waste of time. The cheapest one I've heard that is in high end territory is my Oppo 95. I suspect there are others in the $1k or less range that are ok.

I vote for Oppo as well and mind only cost me $500. Plays everything, Blu-Ray, DVD-A and HDCD. If I ever get another Blu-Ray it would be another Oppo for sure.

As for the YES SACDs, if they sell them separately I would be interested.

I haven't heard the 103 & 105. There seems to be ALOT of controversy amongst those who have as to whether the 95 or 105 sounds best. I'm fortunate in that I have the very last firmware for the 95 that will play SACD iso's.

Even if these were all 5.1, I would still probably decline due to the high price.

I mean, how many times can one buy the same catalog over and over....?

The price is insane. I would be curious to hear the mastering, though. It's odd that there are so many different hi def remasters coming out almost simultaneously on the Yes catalog.

The one for me will be the blu-ray audio of CTTE with a 5.1 mix by Steven Wilson.

I did not waste any time and pulled the triigger for this @ CD Japan for $377 + Shipping. It was supposedly the last one left to ship on release day. Hybrid SACD's in Mini-LP Sleeves is too good to pass up. I also ordered the Captain Beyond debut on MLPS with the lenticular cover art from the original vinyl.

Mine came in from Tokyo yesterday. Be forewarned that the http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/ review is incorrect about these being MLPS's. They are in fact in STANDARD Jewel Boxes. The inserts , however , replicate all the artwork for each release including the alternate covers from "YES" and "Time And A Word" on nice heavy stock paper. The main box booklet contains all the lyrics in english and japanese plus photo's of LP labels, etc. All of the discs in my box are pristine, not a scuff to be found. I took some time today to compare 2 of them. I listened to them on my main system via an Oppo BDP-105 through the Analog Stereo outs into a Marantz Pre/Pro with all processing off and at the same volume level.1st up was "The Yes Album" SACD against the MoFi Gold. The SACD sounded much richer and had a deeper bottom end. A definite improvement on SACD as it should be. The next one I got to was the "Close To The Edge" Japan Vs. the Audio Fidelity Steve Hoffman remaster SACD. I only had time to compare the title cut on each. While both are very good, I favor the Japan release simply because it had much more punch, particularly in the drums. The AF version seemed a tad better balanced but at the expense of the drum tracks. I can't wait for the Steve Wilson 5.1 mix on this. So far I'm pretty happy with the box.

Thank you for the review! Wish I was wealthy...................... Adding all the HD tracks releases to what you mentioned, I think Yes has more Hi-res versions of their albums than any other non classical artist. Most of the catalog has at least 2 versions (HD Tracks & the Japan SACD's); Going, Close & Fragile each currently have at least 3 official HR's & CTTE will soon have 4!

I cranked "Drama" today at max volume. The SACD blows away the Redbook CD. I had the windows rattling on "Tempus Fugit".
