This used to be my attitude before I realized that: (a) I was depriving myself of far too much cool music; (b) I'd rather spend $5 on a download than waste entire days googling a particular song, screwing with bittorrents and filesharing websites, and allowing my computer to be hijacked; (c) that I was unable to fly around the world enough times to cause the earth to rotate backwards and enable me to change history by altering the development of the MP3 file; and (d) that I was depriving myself of far too much cool music.

I still think flac has a chance of at least a tie if not a win vs mp3. I never bought an 8 track either.

I'll bet the Japanese get a download bonus track. For double the price.

I hear you but if you know the forums where to look it really takes no more than a few minutes. And there is no danger of getting your PC hijacked unless you are doing something really dumb.

And apart from this Stones release, I don't know of anything that is officially released only as a download that I have any interest in at all, so no worries there for me about missing out on any cool music that would not be possible to get any other way. Although I'm afraid that will change in the next 10-15 years. At which point I guess I will just spend my listening time catching up on all the huge amount of stuff I already have, some of which I've never even had the time to listen to yet (thousands and thousands of downloaded "live" shows). :D

I don't know if I've stated it on this thread, but while I prefer physical media, I'm fine with flac as long as it's inexpensive.

I do agree with the previous posters who stated that offering it only as mp3 in the USA, but flac in the rest of the world will cause lots of free downloads, in some cases from people who who would have actually purchased the flac or real edition.

Got to give them credit on this release. They made the download very affordable and it does sound great.

I think this is a very poor decision, followed by poor execution.

I went through the check-out procedure twice and was rejected each time. I never figured out WHY I was rejected. It said:

"We're sorry for the inconvenience. Please correct any errors highlighted below and try again.

If no errors are highlighted below, please contact customer service to place your order. You'll need the item numbers listed below under the order summary. 1-866-66-SHIRT

Ship to country is restricted for this item.
Bill to country is restricted for this item
."

That's not exactly clear so I went I went through it twice. It goes past the point where I've put in my PayPay password, which is a bit galling. If you're going to reject me, reject me BEFORE I type in my payment password.

Putting a clear statement that says "For purchasers in the USA, please use this link") would be simple.

I'd still balk at the "MP3 only" problem (why FLAC in the rest of the world, but not USA??).

It DOES sound great, though....much better than the bootleg versions.

If any of our foreign members would be interested in working out a private arrangement for the purchase of the FLAC source files, please contact me privately via PM.

Thank you.

OK, I just downloaded this. For $4.99, how could I resist?

The sound is fine for MP3 (it is encoded at 320kbps). If it eventually comes out on a physical CD, I will willingly buy that as well, but I will still be glad I spent five bucks to hear it now.

My question is:

How do you get rid of the silent, one-second gaps between songs? Listening on the Google Music page itself, the gap is quite annoying in a live recording.

NOTE: It sounds fine when played in Windows Media Player on my computer, no gaps heard there

There is software that will remove the gaps from files on your pc, but i have no clue about Google. There does appear to be a 1 second gap inherent in the mp3 format. No idea why.

Gaps are inherent in mp3 codec. Live albums and mp3 don't work too well.

i imported it into my itunes library and then burned it to disc. if you do that, you can specify no gap between tracks so it all runs together.

Interesting! I'll have to try that on a few things I have...

You may or may not have to trim the silence out of the files first; some mp3's are encoded with the gap as part of the file.

You need a player that supports gapless playback. Foobar 2000 is one. http://www.foobar2000.org/
On some pmps you can install the Rockbox firmware but it doesn't read external sd cards. http://www.rockbox.org/

The Stones are now offering the 12/18/81 Hampton, VA show for download. 26 songs for $4.99. Again, nothing that hasn't been bootlegged for years--in fact, I think some of this show is also on the "Still Life" album

I have this on DVD. It was a PPV show around Keith's birthday. A good show, but like much of that tour, very ragged and hurried versions of the songs.
And, download only and no FLAC-forget it.

Is this the show where some guy ran onstage and Keith clubbed him with his guitar?

I'm glad they are releasing these so quickly. I'll buy this.
