Not sure what all will be released on the upcoming Black Friday Record Store Day, but I happened to come across two items:

The Doors: L.A. Woman 7" Single Box Set

A limited edition box set featuring the singles "Riders On The Storm," "The Changeling" and "Love Her Madly." It also includes a special 7" of outtakes and studio chatter from the recording sessions. Limited to 5,000 boxes! Record Day Exclusive!

The last album the Doors recorded was also their best seller. Released in 1971, this instant classic gave the world "Riders on the Storm," "Love Her Madly" and the radio staple "L.A. Woman."

This special box set includes an exact reproduction of the "Electric Woman" poster.

Celebrate this monumental record's 40th Anniversary with this box set, the ultimate collectible.

Janis Joplin: Record Store Day 7 inch Box Set

A limited-edition set of four 7" singles on virgin vinyl. Features "Call Me" b/w "Magic of Love" (mono mix), "Piece of My Heart" b/w "Summertime" (stereo mix), "Raise Your Hand" b/w "Bo Diddley" (stereo mix) and "Move Over" b/w "My Baby" (unissued version, original mono mix prepared for cancelled single release). Includes reproductions of original picture sleeves, plus a temporary version of Janis' wrist tattoo. Only 5,000 boxes. Only sold on Record Store Day "Black Friday."

Once a year was extremely cool. Twice a year is okay. But if they try to ramp this up to a five or six times a year thing, they'll kill it.

And blame its demise on downloading.

Since I don't buy records anymore, I just ignore this anyway.

  I know, I haven't bought a record since the late 80's! Sold the turntable years ago and doubt I will ever go back to the black vinyl.

There were Black Friday exclusives last year too. Recently I had read that they're talking about adding third and fourth Record Store Days every year on July 4th and New Year's Day, which are interesting ideas. The flood of collectibles is already overwhelming, though. There ended up being maybe 4 or 5 genuine rarities from this past April's releases (the Big Star test pressing, the Seeds single and a couple of others), but most everything else is still available in quantity at Amazon and eBay.

The list of exclusives coming out for this event has grown quite a bit. Most seem to be 45's, although there is also a Janis Joplin vinyl album box. I'll let somebody else copy and paste the entire list, but one must-buy for me is the Lovin' Spoonful "Alley Oop" single, complete with picture sleeve. (Heck, I might even buy two!)

Here are a few more titles of potential interest... (and all on CD, too :))

Quote:
John Cale
EP: Extra Playful CD

Image

John Cale's forever ready to jump off the edge and take everyone with him. Extra Playful leaps from Pop's edge with glee, freewheeling through springy beats, snaking, shonky guitar lines and zones of exciting texture that gesture to Cale's role as a master producer. His lyrics veer from richly poetic to extra playful, at times it's as though he's having a little word in your ear, which is welcome from a voice as charming and smart as he is here. He's asking you to have fun with him and who can say no when he's offering whimsical art rock this fine, beguiling and invigorating.

01. Catastrofuk
02. Whaddya Mean By That?
03. Hey Ray
04. Pile A L’Heure
05. Perfection

The Petty Live MAY be of interest, depending on price & songs. it would have to be reasonably priced, as I have a TON of Petty, & it would get burned to cd & filed with the rest of my vinyl for when i retire & have time to listen to it!

I assume these tracks are from last year's fan club download. I have it, and it's pretty good. Hits and tracks from Mojo.

A local store (well reasonably local) was taking deposits on these releases last month. It surprised me because they wont do that for the April RSD. A guy there claims they'll take deposits and hold stuff for the Black Friday one, but not the April one - and wasn't clear on why. Hmmm...
Anyways - I preordered the Lennon "Imagine" box. Now - whether I actually get one when I get there Monday remains to be seen...

I'm interested only in the Sharon Jones CD. I'll be traveling all day Friday after spending the holiday with family across country on Thursday, but I hope to find a copy of this on the shelf of my local store. I read that it'll be a "limited" edition of 20,000.

My pal Jamal ordered $20K worth of Black Friday releases, and as of yesterday afternoon was still waiting on delivery. He was getting a little panicky.

He promised to hold me the Crowded House and Sharon Jones CDs.

One of my local indies where I know the owner has told me that ordering a specific title on RSD is absolutely no assurance that the store will receive it.
