Certainly don't need a better reason to take to the highways of my great state and hit every event I can at our famous stores. How will you celebrate?

Now, y'see, they had to go make it a Saturday. For me, every weekday is "Record Store Day," and I rarely shop on the weekends. Do I qualify for a special dispensation?

With gas at $3.40 a gallon, it's too expensive to drive to the nearest record store (wherever it is--probably Tampa).

I'll pop over to Zia Records (I was in there today also). It's really a great place - better than anything I'd been to on Long Island or Brooklyn, and almost equal to many of the great NYC stores. BTW, the new version of Blind Melon will be playing there in 2 weeks.

Ironically, most of the events at the participating stores are in-store performances, which kind of prevents any actual shopping from going on.

Bruce Springsteen is quoted on the RSD website as saying, "I buy CDs all the time. I'll go into a record store and just buy $500 worth of CDs. I will! I am singlehandedly supporting what's left of the record business." He obviously overheard Jimbo talking to someone and decided to claim the statement as his own.

I see a game show in this: Jimbo and Springsteen are let loose in a CD shop - who will gather more CDs in five minutes?? My money's on Herr Jimbo! :yay: :yay:

I will go to Exile On Main St in Branford Ct - live bands - free give-aways...
then perhaps travel up to Waterbury Ct to Brass City Records..

So wait--are we talking about record stores that sell actual records, or just independant music dealers?

I'll be heading to Norman, OK where there's a ton of bands playing all day
throughout the downtown square area for free. Headiners are Polyphonic Spree
and Chainsaw Kittens.

Springsteen spending $500 on CDs is probably equal to most of us spending $1 on CDs. I'll stick with Jimbo on this one.

The only good record store left in north and central Jersey is Vintage Vinyl in Fords. Unfortunately, it's about a 45 minute drive for me. I go there every couple of months. With the price of gas, I'll be celebrating record store day by making some purchases at Amazon.

I agree. For me, it's only about a 15-minute drive, so I usually go there about once every couple of weeks. Their prices are pretty reasonable, and (at least so far) they have not been cutting back on CD floor space.

Long live Vintage Vinyl! While I may not make it there on Record Store Day (parking is usually bad enough on the weekends thanks to the new OTB next door), I look forward to my weekly stop there, and rarely leave without a handful of stuff. They're always incredibly well-stocked on the latest classic rock & soul imports in addition to the usual domestic stuff. Definitely recommend VV to anybody visiting Joisey!

I'm glad to see that Vintage Vinyl is still going strong. Twenty-two years ago, I lived halfway between Princeton and Somerville, but it was always well worth the trip to Fords to shop at Vintage Vinyl. I picked up some great stuff there, that couldn't be found anywhere else. In fact, when I moved away, I missed Vintage Vinyl more than the girlfriend that I left behind, who lived in Edison township!
