I finally went for it and ordered the limited edition (already out-of-print)Oasis singles box. It features ALL 25 of their CD singles (usually 4 tracks per disc). There were many "b-sides" that I didn't have. Best price I found was $297 shipped from Amazon Japan. I've seen it selling for as much as $1300(!), but usually it's around $400.

Anyone else have this one?

Masterplan was a b-sides collection, but it just scratched the surface.

Here's a link to Oasis' website. This link should take you to a page that lists all 25 singles and their respective tracks.

That's an odd (but absolutely beautiful) package ~ they put all of the singles in slimline jewel cases, I assume for uniformity of design, and they follow the UK track configurations with a couple of Euro and Aussie releases thrown in to make sure you get all the A-sides that have been hits around the world. I say "odd" because it doesn't follow the original Japanese single configurations. Most of them have come in standard (not slimline) jewels, and a few have had non-album tracks which aren't included in this box.

So now I have to hunt for additional Japanese tracks

DanO,

Let us know about the box set when it arrives. Being a major Oasis fan I have been contemplating this.

Also intrigued... Linda, can you shed any additional light on non-album material not included in the box set?

The Japanese "Some Might Say" comes in a standard jewel box (with the UK insert photo squooshed in order to fit ... it looks a bit strange :)), and includes two additional tracks ~ a cover of The Beatles' "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" (virtually a Noel solo recording), and Noel's original demo for "Some Might Say" which is a little slower and heavier than the hit version (and of course has Noel on vocals rather than Liam):

This is still in print in Japan so you can get a new copy, but Amazon's third party dealers have it for about half the price:

The Japanese "Who Feels Love" (again in a standard jewel) includes a Noel-sung demo of "Gas Panic":

(Can't find an available copy of this ~ you might need to eBay this one.)

The UK CD/DVD set of "Hindu Times" includes a Noel-sung demo of the title track with very different lyrics that change the whole tone of the song:

The UK CD/DVD set for "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" includes a demo version of the title track:

The Japanese edition of the Don't Believe The Truth album includes one track that hasn't been released anywhere else, called "Can Y'See It Now? (I Can See It Now)":

The UK soundtrack album for the movie Goal! includes three Oasis tracks ~ one is an excellent, otherwise-unavailable song called "Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders", the other two are weird remixes of "Cast No Shadow" (remixed by Unkle) and "Morning Glory" (mixed by Dave Sardy).

There's some stray solo stuff for Noel and Liam too, scattered around various albums. I'll do up a full list of these if anyone's interested. They've both done lead vocals on other bands' recordings, Liam wrote a song for The Seahorses, Noel has a solo track on a soundtrack album ...

Also highly recommend that y'all try to track down the European boot of the Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants Sessions. There were three unreleased, finished tracks on there ~ two have since appeared on singles, but one never did, a very beautiful gospel-ish song called "Solve My Mystery" sung by Noel.

They took my faith
They put it in a head lock and they sealed my fate
Somewhere inside of the world in which they live
Because I failed
They constantly ignore me and they told me I lost my mind
But I believe that I rule the world

I’m singin’ out my revolution song
Like nothing else matters
And you can pitch your gold against my soul
But I bet you’ll get shattered
And there’s a million houses in my hall
It won’t be long
It won’t be long
‘Til I solve my mystery

And what for me
What do I believe in and a master key
Is somewhere inside of the world in which I live
And what for they
They will speak for no one and I may have lost my mind
But I believe that I rule my world

I’m singin’ out my revolution song
Like nothing else matters
You can pitch your gold against my soul
But I bet you’ll get shattered
And there’s a million houses in my hall
It won’t be long
It won’t be long
‘Til I solve my mystery

And I’m singin’ out my revolution song
Like nothing else matters
And you can pitch your gold against my soul
But you’re gonna get shattered
There’s a million houses in my hall
And it won’t be long
It won’t be long
‘Til I solve my myst..
‘Til I solve my mystery

If anybody wanted the Oasis Don't Believe the Truth, I may be able to get it for them from Japan for $20 in my upcoming order. It beats $42.49. It should still be available

Roxanne, do the new Oasis mini LP sleeves from Japan all have the bonus tracks that they had for the jewel case editions?

They're supposed to. I can't find any of my old order sheets that had Oasis listed. As soon as I get catalog numbers, I'll contact my distributor for availability

Oasis also contributed a cover of Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody" (which for some reason got a title change to "Everyone") to the UK benefit CD Warchild: 1 Love. AFAIK, it's never appeared anywhere--unless it showed up on a single I don't know about.

A great, sneering Liam guest vocal can be heard on the Oasis-like song "Scorpio Rising" by a band called Death in Vegas. I forget the title of the album, but it's worth getting for that song alone.

Thanks to Linda and everyone else who took time to post more track details... guess I'll need to do some additional research to determine whether the box set or individual singles are the way to go.

Yes indeedy! The album is also called Scorpio Rising, and it came out domestically in the States so can be had fairly cheap here:

(In addition to Liam's song, you also get a cover of the Gene Clark tune "So You Say You Lost Your Baby" sung by Paul Weller.)

Might as well finish up the Oasis list while I'm here ...

The Chemical Brothers' best-of includes both songs they did with the Gallagher brothers on lead vocals. Liam sings "Let Forever Be" and Noel does "Setting Sun". Again, nice inexpensive domestic pressing:

The X-Files soundtrack album includes a long instrumental by Noel called "Teotihuacan". Dirt cheap copies are available at Amazon (I mean really cheap, some dealers have this disc priced at a penny!), and you can sample Noel's song:

The Jam tribute album Fire And Skill from a few years back includes two Oasis-related tracks. Liam sings a cover of "Carnation" backed up by Ocean Colour Scene, and Noel sings a cover of "To Be Someone". Long out of print but Amazon has loads of cheap copies:

(Note ~ there's also a hidden track of Paul Weller covering himself! :))

Here's another "penny disc" worth checking out, the one and only album by The Seahorses. They were John Squire's band after The Stone Roses split up. It's generally good Britpop-style music throughout (and of course the guitar work is stellar), but Liam wrote one song on the album called "Love Me And Leave Me" ~ I believe this was the first Liam-penned song which was officially released, predating his songs on later Oasis albums. (Oasis haven't recorded this song themselves.)

Then there are a handful of covers which Noel has performed live, and these recordings are dotted around a bunch of Various Artists live CDs. Let me know if y'all want a list of these.
