Chick Corea's website is advertising a new live release from his joint project with John McLaughlin - The Five Peace Band. The 2-cd set, is due to be released to the Japanese market on February 4th. (No word on a U.S. release, but fans should be able to get it through Corea's website and/or the band's website). In addition to Corea / McLaughlin, the band also features Christian McBride (Bass), Kenny Garrett (Sax) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums).

Ok, not exactly fair, but what is the verdict on the recently released Return To Forever Live release?

Friend of mine caught the Five Peace Band in Philly over the weekend. He said it was fantastic. My copy shipped yesterday.

Can't say about the RTF, haven't heard it.

I bought the RTF and Five Peace Band cds through Chick's site and have had them for a month now (as a nice touch they also threw in a free copy of the recent RTF tour book!). Both are what you'd expect: great playing, great tune selection, superb recording. I also snagged the Super Trio cd as well with Chick, Christian McBride and Steve Gadd: great acoustic set of Chick standards.

I've been listening to RTF's live set from their 1977 tour quite a bit recently. Very under rated group as far as Chick's bands go. I'm amazed no boots or video of this tour have ever turned up - the band toured for nearly three months in '77.
