Honest Jons has apparently taken a new approach to their Hayes Archives releases. They are releasing a 2-disc set called Open Strings: 1920s Middle Eastern Recordings-New Responses on April 28th. I really wish that they would have stuck to just the old stuff. On the second disc of new interpretations of Middle Eastern material, I have my doubts as to just how traditional the material might be. One of the supposed song titles on the said 2nd disc is "Surfin" UAE" This is the first time that I'm considering possibly not picking up some of this beautiful old material. I'd prefer it if the new stuff would get a separate release. One thing going for it is that the price isn't too bad and I have the option of not listening to the second disc at all.
