Description
The band’s two albums for Caribou Records from 1976. Over the years, L.A. Express had played on several Joni Mitchell albums as well as those with Tom Scott. Members have included Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Joe Sample and Victor Feldman. ‘L.A. Express’ made the US Top 200. Digitally remastered and slipcased, and with extensive new notes.

joni mitchell does a little vocal work on 'shadow play" if i recall correctly.

the l.a. express were her backing band for a while.

Their first two albums on Ode Records are absolute classics, especially Tom Cat! Great '70s jazz-rock-funk vibe with plenty of Fender Rhodes. The late, great John Guerin was on drums, who I believe dated Joni Mitchell around this time.

And the third album on there by Tom Scott is very much in the LA Express vibe! The tune Uptown Country is brilliantly catchy with Richard Tee's soulful B-3 and Steve Gadd killing it on drums. Mid-70s New York's finest players on here, and even a cameo by George Harrison! Tom Scott was George's musical director on his 1974 tour I believe, which is how that connection was made.
