Fats Domino, who sang such hits as "Ain't That A Shame" and "Blueberry Hill," died Tuesday, the coroner's office said. He was 89.

At least in appearance, Domino was no Elvis Presley. He stood 5-feet-5 and weighed more than 200 pounds (91 kilograms), with a wide, boyish smile and a haircut as flat as an album cover.

But Domino sold more than 110 million records, and his 22 million-selling singles helped change popular music even as he honored the grand, good-humored tradition of the Crescent City.

Harry Connick Jr. and other celebrities mourned the loss on social media.

Connick Jr. wrote, "you helped pave the way for new orleans piano players... see you on top of that blueberry hill in the sky".

It's always a sad day when we lose one of the rock & roll originals. I only own a single-disc compilation of his work but every song is great.

When I first heard "Blueberry Hill" as a kid I thought he was singing "I found Montreal on Blueberry Hill." Eventually I learned it was "my thrill" but I still think of those incorrect lyrics whenever I hear the song.

RIP Fats Domino.

RIP to a legend.

I got to see him live 10 years ago in New York. He looked pretty frail then......had to be helped onstage, only played "Blueberry Hill." and left......so it's great he had another 10 years in him.

A rock legend - no a rock God.
I have the US box and earlier this year I gave in and got the large Bear Family box - his 50 stuff and even his late 60 "comeback" releases are super.
He had been frail for a long time - Fats RIP thanks for all the thrills!

For me Fats was the link between Professor Longhair, Meade Lux Lewis and Dr. John.

If I remember correctly he lost everything in Hurricane Katrina...

Well done Fats -may you rest in peace..

Very sad news. Sad to lose him and Chuck Berry in the same year.

Here's an article from the New Orleans Times-Picayune about the Beatles meeting Fats Domino in 1964 when the Beatles played in New Orleans.:

Does anyone know which 50's rockers (not obscure band members) are still alive? Only Little Richard comes to mind, but I'm not a huge 50's rock fan.

Jerry Lee Lewis comes to mind, but there aren't many.

And since he's still performing, he could be considered the last man standing.
