It's opening week (started on Thursday)!
Rutgers, my Alma mater trounced Norfolk State today 63-13 but they should have.
This, despite having to suspend 5 scumbags from the team who should NEVER play again but probably will.
Some great matchups tonight and I'm watching Temple-Penn State right now.

Temple beat Penn State for the first time since 1941 and snapped an 0-38-1 streak!
Awesome doesn't even describe it.

I was happy to see Temple beat Penn St. (Stewart Mandell of Fox Sports picked Temple as his week 1 upset special). Northwestern also pulled a surprise upset against Stanford. What an incredible finish to the BYU - Nebraska game! Texas on the other hand was every bit as miserable as expected - I don't look for them to win very many games this season. Bama looked dominant against Wisconsin, but they've got a tough road ahead.

LSU's game was cancelled.
Not postponed... cancelled.
Since play began prior to the lightning delay, the game cannot be postponed to a later date (as has happened in the past).

I assume if this was a real opponent and not McNeese State they'd have tried a make-up date but that's tough to do in NCAA football. How long did they play?

What an incredible finish to the BYU - Nebraska game! Texas on the other hand was every bit as miserable as expected - I don't look for them to win very many games this season. Bama looked dominant against Wisconsin, but they've got a tough road ahead. That BYU-Nebraska game was unbelievable for several reasons. The Hail Mary to win it, and the fact that Mathews barely crossed the goal line with it, and the fact that backup QB Tyson Hill threw it because star QB and Heisman hopeful Taysom Hill broke his foot marking his THIRDS season-ending injury in his sad career. Wild stuff! SALT LAKE CITY -- Terenn Houk couldn't stop laughing Monday as he reminisced about the "craziest, happiest experience" of his life. BYU shockingly beat Nebraska 33-28 with a long pass as time expired Saturday that handed the Cornhuskers their first loss in a season opener since 1985. As BYU turned Memorial Stadium into their own personal mosh pit, including coach Bronco Mendenhall running in circles and getting emotional afterward, cameras caught Houk in a moment of elation. It's been dubbed the "Houk Hug." The BYU receiver was in the end zone when Mitch Mathews caught the ball and immediately turned to the ref standing on the goal line. As soon as he signaled touchdown, Houk sprinted to the man in stripes and gave him a hug. "He catches it and I freak out. I can't believe he came down with it," Houk said. "So I'm in shock. I look at the ref thinking he's going to go, no, incomplete or something. Because there's no way that happened. "Then he raises his hand and it was literally the happiest moment in my life. So I run over, I'm like, 'Thank you!' I was outside myself. I don't even remember. In the moment it was probably the dumbest thing to ever do. But I run over and I hug him. Then I realize it's the ref and I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm going to get flagged.' So I let go and run over and just jump on the pile. It probably was the most surreal, amazing moment ever. ... Yeah, it was pretty stupid." Houk said he could see fear in the referee's eyes, not knowing what he was going to do. Since then, the moment has been repeatedly shown across sports platforms. "I felt so dumb, to be honest," Houk said. "I can't believe that happened. "You just have to own it because it got blasted all over social media. I had people from third grade telling me, 'Did you know?' Yeah I know. I was there. It was me. You just have to own it and laugh at it."

Also, #1 Ohio State whipped Virginia Tech last night and Broxton Miller had a 54 yard TD run that was beyond spectacular (oh, those spin moves!) and a 53 yard TD catch.
Not too bad for a former QB.

Call it what you will, but most people would not consider a 42-24 final score a "whipping". Not sure if you watched the entire game, but Virginia Tech was actually leading at halftime. It was a close, competitive contest until the Hokies' first possession of the third quarter, when their starting quarterback was knocked out of the game with a broken collarbone, and they had to go the distance with a backup who had hardly thrown a pass at the college level. Kinda took the air out of a team that had impressed to that point. Braxton Miller was extremely impressive, and Ohio State is loaded with talent. This was probably their only real challenge until the Michigan State game.

This was probably their only real challenge until the Michigan State game. I watched it and never felt Viriginia Tech would win, and the second half was a clinic. Just what I saw. Ohio State will most likely annihilate Hawaii this week. But I will watch my second favorite team try. My Alma mater Rutgers hosts Washington State. Biggest game might be Oregon-Michigan State.

I think that each team had an offensive possession (the stats show McNeese with negative rushing yards and LSU with negative passing yards). Not sure what they'd do if it was an SEC game. The open dates wouldn't match up.

Wow, Notre Dame pulled out a squeaker, with a last-minute touchdown at underdog Virginia. And Auburn was losing late in the fourth quarter before winning in OT against an FCS school

Prime time matchup between Oregon and Michigan State on now, good matchup so far. Wonder why Chris Fowler is not in the broadcast booth tonight with Reece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit? He made a number of noticeable mistakes on Monday night's Ohio St - Virginia Tech game, usually Fowler does a better job.
At least we get to see Heather Cox twice in less than a week, my favorite sideline reporter

Auburn came oh, so close to losing at home to Jacksonville State, but survived.
Rutgers lose in the final seconds to Washington State 37-34. Boo hiss.
And...BYU win on a Hail Mary again? Yep, and seal it with an INT for a TD.

Les Miles' conservative play calling strives to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Then he ices the kicker twice, once after the kicker tries to kick the game winning field goal for Miss St and he misses, but the timeout was called. (which I hate when coaches do this) Then the kicker for State misses a second time, thus allowing Miles to get off the hook again.
I don't hate Miles, mind you, I just get tired of LSU being better than an opponent and having it always come down to the last play when it doesn't have to.
