Concern grows for Sinead O'Connor over 'suicidal' tweets

Sinead O'Connor has sparked concern for her welfare after tweeting about having suicidal thoughts.

The Irish singer took to her feed Twitter.com/howryeh and apparently fantasised about taking her own life, saying she wishes to "go to heaven".

She wrote: "Had to go to the psychiatrist for routine renew prescription etc. She says I'm a bad mum and mental for talking so openly about sex in public. All this shit we’re not allowed to say. Including suicidal feelings, sex etc. U just get treated like a crazy person."

The singer has four children aged between four and 24. However, she appeared to ask her followers how she could take her own life: "Anyway.. If any1 knows how I can kill myself. Now I fucking wish suicide wud kill me."

Last month she wrote on her blog about she was left feeling suicidal after “rude, patronising, insulting and disrespectful” questions asked of her by a male researcher on Ireland's The Late Late Show.

After pulling out of the appearance, she wrote: "It is sickening to have it suggested by anyone that I am 'insane' for talking openly about sex. The researcher said to me that since I suffer from depression do I not think it's insane behaviour to be talking publicly about sex. I will never as long as I live, consider appearing on The Late Late Show again.

"And I might add that no apology or act of respect has been issued by either the presenter of the show, nor any one in a leading position on the show. I am tired of all this 'Sinead is crazy' crap. It's a disgrace. It has caused me enormous pain in my life as an artist and has many times led me to consider ending my life.

"Thankfully I have four beautiful reasons not to. Those are my precious children. But no woman should have to walk around feeling like someone has driven a tree through her heart. I can honestly say that is how I felt since my conversation with the Late Late researcher."

Sinead O'Connor has assured fans she won't commit suicide, and her series of worrying messages on Twitter were merely a "a cry for help".

The 44-year-old singer has written an open letter explaining her actions, and refused to apologise for the messages that sparked fears over her mental state.

She said:


She also encouraged others who felt suicidal to follow suit and not be ashamed to admit it.

"There is no shame in feeling suicidal. Nor in anyone knowing that wave passes over you sometimes. No one should be judged badly for however it is they choose to make their cry of help."

She added that those who talk of their suicidal thoughts are least likely to act on them.

O'Connor, who attempted suicide 11 years ago, cited being upset about the break-up of her marriage earlier this year as one of the things that got her down, and said people calling her crazy only made things worse.

"I have often and still often struggle with suicidal feelings when I am subjected to this 'mad' Sinead O'Connor business. It's is wrong. Degrading. Insulting. A breach of my human rights as I see it, and most disrespectful."

The star has since revealed on Twitter that she is "desperate" for sex, and this morning added: 'Must announce boyfriend search very much still on. If any1 wants a suicidal tourettes ridden fat ugly lunatic with a big fat flappy *****.'

Troubled Irish singer Sinead O’Connor claimed to have “taken an overdose” Sunday afternoon at unknown hotel in a lengthy Facebook post on her verified account.

“This week has broken me,” the 48-year-old songwriter wrote.

“The last two nights finished me off. I have taken an overdose. There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I’m at a hotel, somewhere in ireland, under another name.”

Fewer than two hours later, Irish police reported finding O’Connor “safe and sound,” according to the Irish Web site breakingnews.ie.

In her posting, O’Connor had called out her family for abandoning her in the months since she had a hysterectomy in August. The mother of four also has reportedly been in the midst of a visitation battle with the father of her youngest son.

“Apparently I’m scum and deserve to be abandoned and treated like s--t even when I’ve had my womb and ovaries chopped out and my child is frighteningly sick,” she wrote. “I’m such a rotten horrible mother and Person, that I’ve been alone. Howling for weeks.

And I’ve been told by them all t[o] go f--k myself. I’m invisible. No one has come near me.”

O’Connor said her family doesn’t deem her valuable, adding, “They wouldn’t know if I was dead until weeks from now if I wasn’t f--king informing them now.”

“Well done guys, you’ve finally got rid of me. Sorry the penny didn’t drop sooner. I’m an idiot,” she wrote.

Taking away her children was the final straw, she wrote, before ending the note.

“Everyone is better off. Never ever do this to a woman again,” she wrote.

O’Connor has posted multiple rambling posts to Facebook in the past few days about her children and ex-husband.

This is not her first reported suicide attempt. In 2007, she revealed on Oprah’s TV show that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and tried to kill herself on her 33rd birthday.

I'm thinking she needs to "fight the real enemy"...her mental health. I'm hoping that this is just a cry for help and that she finally gets it.
