Come to think of it, it's been awhile since I've seen a "Jimbo Lunch" thread. How 'bout it, Jimbo?

OK, since Ven asked for it, here's the dirty lowdown on yesterday's Jimbo Lunch. (I took the afternoon off from work to get some shopping in, before going to see Happy Feet).

First stop, Discorama:

Robert Plant: Nine Lives (box set)
John Fogerty: The Long Road Home In Concert (2 CDs)
M. Knopfler and E. Harris: Real Live Roadrunning (CD + DVD)
Dixie Chicks: Taking the Long Way (CD + DVD reissue)
Jagged Edge: The Hits
Oasis: Stop the Clocks (new hits comp, 2 CDs)
Jamiroquai: High Times: Singles 1992-2006
King Crimson: Collectable King Crimson Vol. 1 (2 CDs, live archival release)
Yes: Essentially (5 CD box of reissues)

Next stop, Tower, all CDs 40% off:

Benjamin Orr: The Lace (Wounded Bird reissue)
Shakespear's Sister: Best Of (import,CD + DVD)
Paul Carrack: Winter Wonderland (import)
T'Pau: Very Best Of
Iron Maiden: Piece of Mind (Castle reissue w/ bonus dics)
Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast (Castle, with bonus disc)
Iron Maiden: Fear of the Dark (Castle, w/ bonus disc)

The Plant box is pretty cool, the DVD includes 20 complete videos. Do I trade in my old CDs now?

The Yes box contains straight reissues (mini-sleeves, no booklets) of The Ladder, Talk, Open Your Eyes, and Magnification, as well as a bonus live disc of Live at Montreux, 2003. I'm thinking I shoulda skipped this one.

I still have the CD-r of the Orr album that Todd sent me when the disc was way OOP. Thanks Todd!

Embarrassed to admit that I didn't pick up the Carrack Christmas CD last year when it was issued. Better late than never!

Dunno how those Maiden CDs lasted this long unbought. Even if I have 'em already, they should go for more than 7 bucks on eBay.

If the Big Box stores have any exclusives for Oasis or Jamiroquai, I'm gonna kick myself.

So, anybody else have a recent haul they'd like to share?

It's been a small month for me because I had to go to London to see Brian Wilson. Five so far:

Al Jardine: Live in Las Vegas
Elton John: The Captain and the Kid
Jerry Lee Lewis: Last Man Standing (album of the year?)
Jefferson Starship: Red Octopus
Jefferson Starship: Freedom at Point Zero (cost me a whopping £18, but it's now or never)

Still waiting for the Lorraine Ellison set and The Band: Jubilation

Okay, never say never, but "Freedom at Point Zero" is the sort of thing that'll be OOP in no time at all, and there's no telling when it'll be back in print again.

On a related topic, hasn't Jefferson Starship's Modern Times been out of print on CD in the US for nearly two decades?? I've never understood why that one's not available, as it was a commercial success and spawned two rock radio hits, "Find Your Way Back" and "Stranger." :o :o

Yo Todd, where'd you wind up getting the Split Enz CDs from? I spotted a bunch at the Virgin megastore, but they were mega-expensive. And how's that Christine Perfect remaster? I've got the old UK CD.

Looking forward to your return to the Big Apple! Let's go shopping!

Don't know about the Big Boxers but there is a 2 disc import of Jamiroquai that features a 10 track remix disc. There is an import Oasis "Stop The Clocks" ep that I believe has two hits from the regular disc and two demos. That one is about $5 at Amazon UK.

quite rare.

in fact, unless Chris knows something i don't (which is very, very possible) i don't think "modern times" was ever available on a U.S. CD.

The imports regularly go for $20+ on ebay.

Bestbuy has the Oasis CD/DVD set at $19.99 as of today. Just the CD is priced at $13.99.

The CD has these exclusive tracks:

19. Exclusive Track: Acquiesce
20. Exclusive Track: Cigarettes and Alcohol (demo version)
21. Exclusive Track: Some Might Say (live in '95, venue unknown)
22. Exclusive Track: The Master Plan

It probably wasn't, renny. I thought that maybe it had been available briefly in the mid-'80s, but that was twenty years ago.

GoogaMooga,

It was a big rock radio album in 1981. And "Find Your Way Back" is still played on classic rock radio today. If it was some obscure album with no hits, I could understand it not being available, but the fact that it's never been issued on CD in the US is baffling. However, a remastered reissue was issued in Japan last year.

I ordered all of these from tower.com a couple of days ago. They have all their imports at 25% off regular price, plus I had a code for another 10% off. They came to somewhere between $10-12 each.

I guess I shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch, as I don't yet have these in hand, but have received an email indicating 3 are currently in route...

That looks like it might just be the same tracklist as the import EP!

Hey Steve: I thought you might notice the Junkies in there! :ohyes:

Looks like the DVD gives you a lot of bang for your buck! Concert, interviews, soundcheck, behind-the-scenes...

Hey, a bunch of good stuff in that most recent haul, Jimbo. I want the Crosbys, the Osborne, Junkies and Crowded House. I assume that Crowded house is the CD/DVD combo, and an import? I don't think it's due in the states until 2007.

Jimbo's not the only one who went shopping this weekend. I went to Chicago and hit the Towers and Virgin records. Here are my purchases:

Steve Miller Band- Fly Like an Eagle CD/DVD
After the Fire- Der Kommisar (2 LPs on 2 CDs)(import)
Joy Zipper- Heartlight Set
Elton John- Victim of Love (rem.)(import)
Nazz- Nazz Nazz/Nazz III (import)
Elton John- Recover your Soul EP (import)
Eels- Hey Man EP (import)
Coldplay- Hardest Part EP (import)
Coldplay- Scientist EP (import)
Ellis Marsalis- Ruminations
At the Chicago Best Buy, I picked up the new remaster of the Vince Guaraldi Christmas Album, that Barry Manilow 4 CD/1 DVD box set (for $19.99), and a couple of Chicago exclusive radio station compilations with live exclusive tracks on them. Since discovering the Cities 97 comps, I've been interested in tracking these down when I can find them.
Plus, I bought a mono LP of Nat King Cole's Love is the Thing (highly recommended by the Hoffmanites) and ordered the Cure's Kiss Me Kiss Me and The Head on the Door 2 CD sets from yourmusic.com. Finally, I ordered the Tom Waits box set this evening from buy.com.

NYC is coming up in about 3 weeks, and from Jimbo's shopping, it sounds like there are still things to be bought there!

I passed on the U2:18 Singles set today but didn't know there was a U2:18 Videos collection.

I heard the "other" new U2 song on the singles compilation, and was pretty underwhelmed...

Hey Todd, don't spend all your money before you get here! Hoping we can convince some more NYC-area ICEr's to join our expedition.
