I think it was somewhere around $120, but I'd have to go back to my database to see what I paid for it. $229 is way overpriced (not accounting for rarity).
Yep - it was $120 when I bought it at a local brick & mortar. (I'm ready for my banning, Linda!)

A seller who thinks they're going to find someone willing to overpay? That is a strategy some of the 3rd party Amazon sellers have been using for years. Unless something has changed since i last looked, unlike ebay Amazon doesn't charge sellers a monthly listing fee, so some sellers price sky high & don't care how long it takes to sell.

The original listing never has a date in the title. That's an easy way to spot third party creations. There are some rarities to be found in the duplicate listings, but as a rule of thumb, if the original listing is still populated with sellers, it doesn't pay to search further.
I don't know...it's a great price that just seems too good to be true for a title that has been subject to extensive Far Eastern counterfeiting. As far as I know, if Amazon.ca indeed sends me a counterfeit copy, my only recourse is to pack it up and mail it back to Canada.
But what do I know. Has anybody ever gotten a counterfeit copy of something ordered through Amazon proper, and not a third party seller?

Linda, I absolutely owe you one. The copy I ordered last Thursday (or maybe Friday) arrived today--four days ahead of the delivery date I was given, and on a postal holiday no less--and going by every online photo and other resources I could gather, this set is the real deal. The discs are gold on the backside; the serial numbers match, everything lines up.
Before I start popping discs into the player here, my only real observation is that the mini-sleeves aren't quite up to Japanese specs in terms of quality--Japanese mini-sleeves seem to use cardboard stock comparable with the original LP sleeves, and these seem to be that thinner, flimsier cardboard used for a lot of U.S. mini-sleeves (I'm thinking primarily of the 1994 Stones sleeves and the Richard Pryor boxed set.) That said, if that's the type of mini-sleeves this set is supposed to have, not a problem.
As some point I'm going to have to find out what other treasures such as this one can be found on Amazon.ca, but right now I have a bunch of discs that need to be played two or three times apiece.

As usual, I'm way behind the curve, but...the "Santa Monica '72" disc has got to be one of the greatest live albums of all time. If I had heard it thirty years ago, I would have immediately been completely in the bag for the full Bowie catalog. (As it is, all of these boxes appear to be a pretty good value when you can snag them at their suggested retail prices.)
I'm serious--this concert should have been released years ago. Wow.

There have been at least 5 releases (all from the same FM broadcast):
1 & 2: Bootleg LP's were released in the mid 70's. The first half had very good sound for a 70's boot LP. 3. Tony Defries (Bowie's Manager) issued the definitive (as of this writing) version on UK cd (Golden Years was the label) 4. EMI issued a horrible brickwalled cd 5. EMI issued another horribly brickwalled cd in the last couple years
It's unfortunate that EMI went bat s**t with the compressor, as it does have less grain than the Golden Years version.
And I agree, it's an awesome show; especially the first half (the old LP #1).

That big shot in the commerical might not be, but the employees are heroes for working through this. Walmart is one of the few places around here that's stayed open for groceries and pharmacy. Maybe Bowie wouldn't have approved the use of the song, but I can't imagine that he would insult those workers.

I have no problem with Walmart workers, sure they are heroes for working in these circumstances but the legacy of Bowie being the absolute cutting edge of music now having his music used by one of the largest retail stores in the world (and who famously screws their workers) is plain nuts.
My jaw literally dropped when I came upon this ad the other day. Now KISS has done a Walmart ad but you expect that from Gene ($$$$$).
