If you're not watching the women's final, you're missing one hell of a performance. Carli Lloyd had a hat trick in the first 15 minutes, including a goal from midfield, and the US was up 4-0 in the first 18 on that goal. Fastest hat trick in women's World Cup history.

If the scoring happened at this pace on a regular basis, I would watch a lot more often!!!!

This is a terrific game. I think women's soccer is a lot more entertaining than men's soccer.

With that big lead the game has been undramatic obviously but I give the Japan girls credit for keeping at it despite big odds.

Hope Solo on a Wheaties box?

I could not disagree more.

There are only a few women's teams that are even at the level of the US.

I like the women's game to a degree, but it does not compare in any way for me.

All the flopping makes men's soccer unwatchable for me.

Went to the first game for the USWNT Victory Tour today in Pittsburgh. They'd expected to sell about 20,000 seats - they were way off. They ended up having to open some of the upper deck, and the total ended up being 44,028 - a record for a standalone friendly, and the 10th largest crowd ever to see the USWNT.

It was no contest, really - 8-0 over Costa Rica. Huge ovation for local girl Megan Klingenberg, especially when she scored and celebrated with a Terrible Towel.

And I finally got to see Hope Solo play - or at least mostly stand around and watch the rest of her team. She did make several nice plays, though. I was kind of surprised at what a strong, warm reception she got after seeing so many articles about the controversy about her domestic situation. I found quite a few of those articles to have an agenda behind them, but whatever.

Hot as hell, but a cool way to spend the afternoon with my kids.

Forgot this - my daughter was going full bandwagon today. USA hat, USA sunglasses, USA top, USA flip flops. She was complaining that my son and I weren't doing the same kind of thing. So when I got dressed, I came out and said, "Here - does this make you happy? Red shirt, blue pants, and mostly white underwear."

For some reason, my wife had her head in her hands when I got to the dining room...
