My wife & I just sold our house in New York and we will be moving to North Carolina in September. I already know which boxes I will use to move & store my CD collection (those Staples file storage boxes work nicely & they're easy to carry) but I need to figure out how to pack my LPs. In the past I've used milk crates & other open boxes since I was moving locally, but in this case I'll be driving my music collection down in a rental truck and....*gasp*...putting everything in storage until we buy a new house. Therefore, I don't want to store them in anything that's open.

Bags Unlimited has these boxes which could do the job:
https://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-3839-12 ... board.aspx

I'll probably need about 10 of them which costs $64.90. That seems reasonable, but before I place an order I wanted to see if anyone here as another recommendation. I don't need anything fancy; just sturdy & affordable boxes that are easy to lift and are possibly stackable. Thanks.

No help on the LPs, but good call on the Staples boxes for your CDs -- I've used those through several professional and personal moves over the past few years.

Glad you agree about those Staples boxes. I'm going to need a lot of them, as I think my collection has grown to around 8,000 CD titles (including nearly 300 box sets). Fortunately I "only" have about 500-600 LPs.

I'd need about 100 of those LP boxes plus probably 20 of the "long" 45 boxes....

Then I hope you never need to move. Haha. I'm glad my LP collection is manageable but the CDs are another story.

Just wanted to check one more time before ordering those LP storage/moving boxes from Bags Unlimited. Please let me know if you have any other recommendations. Thanks.

FWIW, while I haven't used this specific product I've always been satisfied with other Bags Unlimited purchases... there may be alternatives out there, but I don't think you'll have any regrets.

I suppose if you wanted a second opinion there's always the Hoffman forum.

Thanks, Tricky Kid. I've bought a few things from them in the past & never had any problems. This does look like a suitable product but wanted to see if anyone had other suggestions first. Not sure I want to go to that other forum.

These would work, but note that they are really storage boxes, not moving boxes. The covers are removable and not flush with the side of the box. You will probably want to tape the covers on, which will lessen your ability to have nice looking storage boxes after the move.

Rich, I've got a decent quantoty of both 1 & 5 LP boxes for my business I'd love to sell, but it sounds like you need something much larger.

Thanks, Seth. You're probably right about these not being moving boxes but I'm hoping to use them for that purpose. I'll contact Bags Unlimited to see if they think these will meet my needs or if they have something else that I didn't see.

Thanks, Geff. I do need larger boxes that could hold more than 1-5 LPs each. I haven't counted my vinyl collection in a while but I probably have 500-600, and if I end up with extra boxes I could use them for my LP-sized box sets.

I contacted Bags Unlimited and they also have this "Super Strong Double Wall Construction" LP box available:
https://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-6953-12 ... rd=xlp65dw

I was told that both this and the one linked in my initial post can be used for moving as well as storage, and that they can be stacked up to 4 high.

I realize this information is really for me since I started this thread, but I wanted to post it in case someone searches for this in the future.

Wow congrats on the big move to North Carolina! I also will need to explore a possible move to NC sometime in the future. I hear the area near Charlotte is nice (Lake Norman or Fort Mills).
Also want to check out Myrtle Beach.

Thanks, John. My wife & I have been considering this move for about 2-1/2 years but finally decided to do it this year since the value of our house went up for the first time since we bought it at the peak of the market in 2006. I will not miss the New York taxes, cost-of-living or winters. We're moving to Chapel Hill. We checked out Charlotte which is really nice, but it didn't meet our key criteria. Myrtle Beach (and other beach towns) are too close to the water (and hurricanes) for my liking. I hope you can eventually make a similar move.

Convincing the wife will be tough.....where my kids end up is of course paramount at this point.

John, if you do move, just remember one thing: no matter where you go...

We moved to Waxahw. NC right outside of Charlotte and we love it. Both Lake Norman up north and Lake Wiley in the south near SC are very nice.

I put in an offer on a mobile today that was accepted. Waiting for park credit approval (with a mobile you buy the structure & rent the land) & home inspection.

Cool. When the time comes I'll have to check out those areas. The other plan of course is to be a classic NY snowbird and buy a condo in FLA.
