Genre-straddling hard rockers Living Colour will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their hit debut album Vivid with a new reissue and a tour centered around the 1988 album, with initial European dates in the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany already announced for mid-March.

Aside from promising that more dates will be added to the upcoming tour, the band — featuring original members Corey Glover, Vernon Reid and Will Calhoun, plus Stain-era addition Doug Wimbish — has not officially announced its full 25th anniversary plans.

But in a recent interview with The Trentonian newspaper in New Jersey, Glover reveals that 2013 will be a busy year for Living Colour: “There are plans for a new record, we’re re-releasing Vivid, it’s the 25th anniversary of the record and we’re planning to tour and do just Vivid songs; we’re going to do the album in its entirety.”

When Vivid was released in 1988, an all-black hard-rock/metal act was seen as something of an aberration, and the band initially gained traction on alternative radio before scoring an MTV hit with “Cult of Personality.” The album also spawned the singles “Glamour Boys” and “Funny Vibe,” and featured a cover of Talking Heads’ “Memories Can’t Wait” — and it helped land the band a slot on the inaugural Lollapalooza tour in 1991.

Living Colour disbanded in 1995, but reunited five years later.

Living Colour Vivid tour dates:

March 10: ECI Cultuurfabriek, Roermond, NL
March 11: Melkweg, Amsterdam, NL
March 13: New Morning, Paris, France
March 15: Z7, Pratteln, Switzerland
March 17: Komma, Innsbruck, Austria
March 20: Huxleys Neue Welt, Berlin, Germany

The band posted some pictures of them in the recording studio last week. Fingers crossed for a new release in 2013 - and for a Seattle or Portland date on the tour!

This would be the third release of Vivid... not sure how much era-relevant material is left in the can. There were obviously a few live shows recorded, but we've already seen excerpts from those as b-sides and other bonus tracks.

Probably as a 2CD set maybe with a live show? I wish they'd remaster Time's Up and Stain.

For years, I've been saying I should get the Vivid remaster.

Maybe I'll wait now.

I think it's cool they brought back the original bassist, but how is that going to work with two bassists onstage?

Will they alternate songs?

Love this band, saw them live on their first tour and they blew me away. I have all their albums and yes, I'll get this as well but IP is right, I want to see all of their catlg get remastered.

I saw them headline a local club on both the Vivid and Time's Up tours. I was working for the school paper and was able to get free passes and the photo from their presskit but wasn't able to manage an interview. They tore the place down both times!

The band just announced via Facebook that they'll be the support Aerosmith's summer Blue Army tour.

Oddly they seem to be skipping Los Angeles in favor of Santa Barbara. The SB Bowl is one of my favorite venues, but it just doesn't work for me on a school night.
