I can't believe I'm admitting this, but every time I catch a bit of Glee on TV, I get sucked in. It's a pretty decent show dramatically, which doesn't surprise me, but given my aversion to show tunes in general and "show choirs" in particular, I expected to hate the musical performances. Instead, I've been impressed with every song I've seen them do. These kids can really sing, and the arrangements and production are excellent, even brilliant. For instance, they made a medley out of Young Girl (Gary Pucket and the Union Gap) and Don' Stand So Close To Me (the Police) that actually works, and works well. They seem to be able to capture what was great about the original performances while putting their own touches on them. Their rendition of You Can't Always Get What You Want is pretty inspired. It actually rocks. They even have me enjoying songs I've always hated (Don't Stop Believin', Somebody to Love).

Have I lost my mind, or is this just really well-done, fun stuff?

(If I need to be banned for starting this thread, I understand.)

I, too, dislike showtunes, but LOVE Glee.

I started out watching Glee because my wife really enjoyed it, but I've been sucked in. It has become must watch tv for me.

Jane Lynch.

She should get an Emmy for keeping this dog of a show afloat.

The kids annoy me, the glee instructor is weak, the musical moments make the Monkees seem like a docudrama... but Lynch is amazing.

Since they tossed the pilot from Hulu, I've been unable to catch up on this. Annoying, as I want to watch it.

Yeah - from a 47 year old "rocker" - I love this show too!! My guilty pleasure of this year's T.V. season. I don't know any of my friends who watch it either. Should I be worried about ME!???

I also love the show, and for the most part I don't mind the musical numbers. But I hate all the auto-tuning on the vocals.

I like the musical numbers....they've done a great "Don't Stop Believing" but not a fan of the general sitcom that it is.

The auto-tuning is mostly done on Corey Monteith, because he can't actually sing. Most of the rest of the cast can, though.

It's a great show. I expect season two will go downhill though.

HBO Video used to get 4 times that for seasons of Six Feet Under. They still get double that for True Blood.

And this show has big rewatchability.

Count me in for "Glee". Was skeptical at the start but gave it a shot as there is so little worth watching these days. Was pleasantly surprised, and haven't missed an episode yet. Also, no love for "show tunes" but the music is (mostly) well done enough to be enjoyable. But it is primarily the engaging characters, story lines and writing. About mid-way through i was starting to have some doubts, but they rebounded nicely in the last string of episodes. Hopefully, it won't go downhill, as so many shows which start off decently seem to do these days.

Yes, I also like this show... mostly for the songs, but I dig the characters for the most part. Loved that it introduced mashups to the general population.

Thanks everybody for the (mostly positive) comments, but I also want to hear from those of you who don't like the show and don't agree. Honestly, even though I'm enjoying it, I feel conflicted, and I keep wondering if this is something I could be embarrassed about in a year.

Since you asked ...

I watched the pilot and hated it. Some of the jokes were funny, but I HATED the misogyny at work in how the lead character's wife is written, and a lot of the comedic bits just seemed overly familiar. (e.g., the really good glee club performs an amazing number, and then *of course* we cut to the main characters sitting in their seats with glazed eyes and open mouths ... ha ha, like I haven't seen that in the first act of a dozen "underdog" movies and TV episodes ...)

It was just the pilot, granted, but it really turned me off. I thought for sure the show would bomb, and was surprised when I realized it was a hit, and that several friends of mine really like the show.

I haven't seen the pilot yet. Actually, I have yet to watch a full episode, but I plan to. I'm more impressed by the musical performances than the rest of the show, or maybe just more surprised at myself for enjoying them.

What is this, junior high?

If you dig it, then who cares what anybody else thinks? And should your opinion change in a year, that doesn't mean it wasn't fun at the time.

I despise it, but many people seem to enjoy it. It seems to have a surprising mix of humor, but I've only seen parts of two shows and that may not be enough to go on, but I just find it very cheesy (that may be the intention), and the musical numbers make me wretch.

I'm shocked it's still on the air, obviously somebody really loves it, Renny?

shit, you know this will lead to a plethora of new releases from the 'glee' camp. at least we know the end will be in sight.

bad TV at its finest.

121 episodes.........and 'boomtown' couldn't last 2 years.
