Apparently this is scheduled for release outside the US in March.

On the surface, this looks like a stunning development - the cover art shows that the set includes Quiet Riot, the debut album that was released only in Japan, and one of two Japanese-only releases to feature Randy Rhoads, pre-Ozzy.

According to the track listing, however, it's not that Quiet Riot album, it's the later release (1988?) with Paul Shortino.

Buyer beware.

Those were probably the 2nd biggest selling boots after the Led Zeppelin catalog at the end of the vinyl era.

I never understood why the two QR albums with Randy Rhoads were never issued in the states, especially after Quiet Riot had their breakthrough here.

You would have thought at some point in the '80s these would have finally come out. I'm sure there are Ozzy fans who would have been curious to hear Randy's early work.

Rhoads wasn't happy with them (they're a little poppier than Quiet Riot was), and Kevin Dubrow said he would not allow them to be released. He later reworked some of the tracks for the "Quiet Riot: The Randy Rhoads Years" release.

There are MP3 versions pretty easily available. I found a copy of QRII on vinyl - it's not bad, but it doesn't sound like the QR of "Metal Health", or the QR of the bootleg footage of the Randy Rhoads era. "Slick Black Cadillac" is the only song (I think) that came out on a later release, and it lacks the balls of the later version.

All the albums from 1983-88 were remastered by Rock Candy a few years ago which was nice to see. I liked QR III and a few tunes on Quiet Riot from 1988 but not many.

Condition Critical was aptly titled and doomed them but it wasn't all that bad-just a poor retread of Metal Health.

No idea why the Japan albums from the 70's never got issued here but I do know Randy and Kevin didn't want them out.

Talk about an underrated player-Carlos Cavazo.

There was a nice Quiet Riot documentary on Showtime that focused mostly on Frankie Banali. Man - talk about lineup changes. They went through a ton.

IP's comment about Carlos reminded me of this. Other than in videos and performance clips, he made only a short appearance at a festival - they showed a graphic at the end that said he declined requests for an interview. He's playing in Ratt now. As Pete said - very underrated.

When Kevin DuBrow died, Frankie Banali said that there could be no Quiet Riot without Kevin DuBrow.

A few months later, he apparently had a change of heart and the band got a new singer.

Technically, Quiet Riot now tours without one original member.

In the doc, they ask people to name all the members. It was hilarious - guys attached to the band didn't know everyone.

Other than Rhodes, this band doesn't exist for me. The worst of MTV hair metal.

But for most of us, that was our Quiet Riot.

I didn't hear the Rhoads Riot until a friend made me a cassette copy of one of their Japanese LPs.

Many, many years ago...

Outside of The Randy Rhoads Years, I've bought no Quiet Riot on CD.

I'm half considering getting this, as it's a cheap way to have the classic eighties stuff in one shot.

Too bad we're not getting the Randy albums, tho.

:sigh:
