Leonard Nimoy, best known for playing the role of Spock in the "Star Trek" movies and television series has died at age 83, his rep confirmed to FOX411.
Nimoy was taken to the hospital earlier this week and treated for lung disease. His son told the Associated Press he died in Los Angeles.
The actor wrote on Twitter last month that he suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, despite quitting smoking 30 years ago. On Sunday, he tweeted: "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP."
Thanks for everything Leonard. You will always live long and prosper.
Very sad to learn this. I've complained in the past about the word "iconic" being an overused adjective in pop culture contexts, but Spock--Nimoy's Spock--is on my short list of genuinely iconic creations.
Damn cigarettes.
RIP

This . . . simple feeling, this sense of loss I'm sure that is not beyond all those who loved him and his work. R.I.P., Leonard, and thank you. Where ever you are now, may random chance operate in your favor.
Deeply saddened by Mr. Nimoy's passing. I've always been struck how some of the most moving and emotionally affecting scenes from the tv show and movies involve a character who wasn't able to express emotion naturally--a tribute to terrific writing and Mr. Nimoy's great portrayal. Two that come to mind are the scene in "Plato's Children," in which Mr. Spock and Nurse Chapel are forced together and express their feelings for one another and the climactic scene toward the end of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," in which Spock assures Kirk, "I have been--and always shall be--your friend." RIP, Mr. Nimoy.
Buddy told me about it last night. I thought he was joking until he assured me ge was dead serious.
RIP LM.
