i was just wondering (in light of the repeated offerings of comps of many 60's bands) how many do not have a compilation available at all on CD.

richard and the young lions (2 hits open up the door and nasty)

the hombres (let it out)

those 2 came to mind right away.

Renny...didn't the Hombres only have one real album? Did Richard and the Young Lions even have an album?

I found a list I did last year of groups from the Nuggets box set. Part 1 answers this thread.
The Hombres aren't on this list.....only 1 album (never on CD)

Quote:
This was based on a combination of searching Amazon and Discogs. Some of the groups listed (and already mentioned above) might have only had a few singles, and every song might be available on scattered comps (would've taken me too long to search that). Also, since I'm a CD person, I have a secondary list of available comps not on CD (some also already mentioned above), and a 3rd list of OOP CDs

1. Bands on the Nuggets box without compilations....................
Michael & The Messengers
The Magic Mushrooms
The Brogues
The Humane Society
The Groupies
The Balloon Farm
The Brigands
Harbinger Complex
Richard and the Young Lions

2. Bands on the Nuggets box set with compilations but not on CD - vinyl or download only
The Squires
Max Frost and the Troopers
The Golliwogs
The Daily Flash
The Third Bardo
The Dovers
Jerry Raye (Fenwyck)
The Sparkles

3. A compilation and/or regular albums (on CD) are OOP will cost you a lot of $$$$$
The Castaways
Gonn
Kenny And The Kasuals
The Other Half
The Outsiders

4. Not sure - can't find information either way
The Rumors - looks like songs scattered on comps but no collection.
The Underdogs
The Bees

Oh, a wise guy, eh?

There was supposed to be a Golliwogs comp...........but John Fogerty probably got angry again and pulled the plug.

Surely the CCR complete albums box set included all the Golliwogs recordings on the first, pre-Creedence disc?

Why would there even be comps of these acts?

I guess you're just not a big garage rock fan. I'd buy full CDs of both of these groups the day they came out.

What's the minimum # of albums released &/or maximum # of hits to qualify for this thread?

no rules really, just bands who made records (more than one song) who do not have a CD with their music on it, other than a song or two that would appear on a comp like nuggets.

and there are a hell of a lot bands that have comps that only had one 2 songs on the radio, yet get a 15 - 20 song comp.

left banke
syndicate of sound
count five

are 3 right off the top of my head. and there a whole lot more.

Not what I meant in the least.

Why would there be comps with such a limited catalog?

Groups like that would have to be expanded with unreleased stuff to fill a CD. The results would be more like The Complete Recordings than The Best Of.

I was lucky enough to score this one all by itself about a year ago at Generations without having to buy the entire box. I'd been waiting for years for such an opportunity.

I guess I misunderstood the rules; I just figured that Blind Faith qualified because there has never been an album called "Blind Faith's Greatest Hits" or "The Best Of Blind Faith".

When the Cameo-Parkway vaults finally opened up, that filled in almost all the holes in my collection, as far as the 60s go.
