For the last couple of weeks I've been writing a series at my blog where I'm discussing my favorite one-album artists. These include side-projects, solo albums, supergroups and any artist with only one album in their discography. Occasionally I use a loose definition for "one and done" (was Derek & The Dominos a band or an Eric Clapton solo album?), but for the most part these were short-lived projects that have often been forgotten by anyone who wasn't around at the time. Below I've included links to each post with a list of the albums covered. Please stop by to read more, and feel free to share your thoughts in the Comments sections at the blog or list some of your favorite one-and-done artists in this thread. One of them might show up in an upcoming post. Thanks.

Maggie's Dream immediately pops to mind for me. Some excellent music on there.

As discussed in another thread, Nick D'Virgiio's one solo album.

I'm inclined to include Canadian artist Rebecca Timmons, but it seems her second album was actually released. Just because I can't find it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Hagar, Schon, Aronson & Shrieve? Star Fleet Project?

And since Derek & The Dominoes are on your list, I assume live albums don't count.

There's 6 on your original list I've heard & like:

Rockpile - Seconds Of Pleasure
Blind Faith - Blind Faith
Buckingham Nicks - Buckingham Nicks
BBM - Around The Next Dream
David + David - Boomtown
The Stills-Young Band - Long May You Run
+
Derek & The Dominos - Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs (imo this doesn't count due to the live album, & imo it's a Clapton solo album)

Thanks for the suggestions, Alan. The NDV album is on my master list but I'm not sure it'll be included in the next couple of posts. I haven't played it in a few years so I need to revisit it soon.

I never got the HSAS album, only the "Whiter Shade..." single, nor do I have Rebecca Timmons & Star Fleet Project. I'm sure my fellow IMWANers could create similar lists of one-and-done artists that would have no crossovers with mine, so I'm happy to read your recommendations.

As for Derek & The Dominos, I didn't count live albums (or posthumous releases) so they definitely fit my loose criteria for this series (as long as you don't consider it just a Clapton album, which I don't.

I've long been curious about The GTO's but haven't heard them yet. I know Simmons' contributions to Zappa & The Mothers but didn't realize he released his own album. Will definitely add that to my list of records to seek out. Thanks.

I had very loose criteria for this series since (a) it's only a blog and (b) it's MY blog, so I can do whatever I want. :D
I understand why some fans consider this a Clapton solo album, but with Bobby Whitlock contributing so much and a rhythm section that's as good as his former Cream bandmates, I've always thought of this as a Clapton "project." I discounted live albums unless they consist solely of new material. The D&tD live album is amazing but it's just a document of them in concert, not a separate studio album.

I learned about that a couple of weeks ago, Linda, but thanks for posting it here. Haven't had a chance to check it out. Since that was only a work-in-progress and not an official album, I still consider Please Describe Yourself as their only album, and I was pleased to shed a light on such a great record.

I heard it for the first time a couple of years ago. I might include it in a future post but for now I'm focusing on the albums I'm more familiar with.

I like many from your lists.

I'd also add:
Cruel Shoes - LA band with a Steely Dan feel that I wish hadn't disappeared after only one album
Absinthe - A Good Day to Die (kind of a cheater as it was basically Sam Llanas' first solo project, but credited to "Absinthe")
Chuck Greenberg - From a Blue Planet (Shadowfax's lyricon player's only solo album before his untimely death in 1995)

Hmm, stumped on all three, but I'm always curious about any artist with "a Steely Dan feel" so that will be added to my ever-growing list of artists to check out. Thanks.

I have one Shadowfax album from the '80s. Didn't realize there was a solo album from one of the guys (nor did I know that he died). Thanks for the info.

Seek out Thundclap Newman's Hollywood Dream for your part 4.

Great record........there's alot more to them than "Something In The Air."

I have it but only on LP. I plan on doing a One And Done post at some point of my LP-only titles, but I need to find the time to revisit them at home. It's easier with CDs since I can play them at work. Excellent suggestion. Thanks.

Thanks for reminding me about that Producers album. I'll add it to the master list and it should show up in a future post. The first two you mentioned stumped me, but that's okay. I'm just posting my personal favorite" one-and-done albums and I love hearing about others. Didn't realize that Kurt Neumann had a solo album. Will have to look into that since I love BoDeans. Thanks.

This version of Lucille blows the JG version away - one of FZ's best solo's. He also plays on Raye. Wino Man is much like the 71 version.

GTO's half music - half talk. Lots of Lowell George..Jeff Beck also plays - sounds like a girl group of the early 60's that FZ had corrupted.

I wanted to like the GTO's; never had much luck, though.
