(CNN) -- Wayne Richard Wells, the frontman and founder of the California metal band Static-X, has died. He was 48.
The band announced Wells' death in a Facebook post late Saturday night, but did not disclose the cause.
Wells, who performed under the name Wayne Static, founded Static-X in 1994.
The band released six albums, the most notable being 2001's "Wisconsin Death Trip," which went platinum.
Don't know if there are any Static-X fans here, but I thought this should be noted.
Can't say I was a fan - I don't think I've ever heard any of their stuff, but damn, 48 is way too young.
RIP.
