Anybody else have this Rhino label promo sampler, packaged like a candy box?

Nope!

Wow! I just saw that at a local used cd store about a month ago. I was in a hurry and so didn't get to see what tracks were on it. How is it? I'll have to see if it's still there the next time I stop in. (And it really does look like a real Mrs. See's candy box!)

One of the big advantages of shopping in actual stores was finding "collector" gems like the above. Now that the stores are going away, finding cool things will get harder.

For instance even at Princeton Record Exchange we didn't see anything like that.

A rare Australian album, recorded in Melbourne in 1974. One of my favourite albums of all time, in fact, but little known even in Australia.

Elvis Presley "Double Features" 4 CD boxset in a film canister.

Picked it up on QVC sometime in the late '80s or early '90s.

I would imagine that this box has held a certain value as a collectible, and there will always be Elvis collectors. Also--although the 1990's Presley "Double Features" went OOP, for a time they were sought after as the only source of certain studio tracks; (I'd have to check, but there may still be the odd track still exclusive to these discs; unfortunately, the best online source for Elvis recording/release info, http://www.keithflynn.com has been offline for the past few weeks.) The biggest drawback, however, is that while these aren't the worst Presley soundtracks of all time, they're not all that great.

I don't know as there are any truly rare Presley CD releases from the 1990's--EPE has done a fairly decent job of keeping most of the studio material available and in print--while certain titles seem to be scarce, such as the four-disc "Elvis Aron Presley" reissue of the original vinyl box, other OOP titles that once commanded something of a premium as containing unique material (the 3-disc "Collector's Gold" for example) have since seen that material released elsewhere.

Still, while I don't own this box (I have the individual discs) it's still a nice item. I'm not saying that you'd make your money back selling it, but I'm willing to say that somebody out there is likely looking for this set.

Thanks for that link, Brainiac, I'll keep checking back on it. Actually it's a friend who's thinking about selling her copy. I had no idea what to tell her to go with as an asking price. But I'm keeping my copy- it is a very nice set though yeah, the music isn't all that great (though I like cheesy Elvis music almost as much as his best stuff). If there is a track exclusive to the set then I'm unaware of it.

Renny, is that the collector's edition in the cardboard box? I've got one of those, plus a promo of the regular CD, with "Not for sale" printed on the disc.

I was all excited when this finally got a CD release, and it sounds great.

Heh. I guess I have some Minneapolis local band stuff.
That would be the only stuff that I have that might even be close to being unique.
But I like the idea of this thread, and I will frequent it each time I see it bumped.

I like owning CD's that one never sees on the shelves of pawnshops, Best Buy, or public libraries.
