Hello everyone! I've been a lurker here for some time and have now decided to take the plunge and have registered and would like to introduce myself. My user name has basically come about as a reaction to Rap; to me, there is no melody to most Rap (now, all you people who are Rap-friendly please do not submit Rap titles that you think are melodic-I know there ARE exceptions, sampling aside!) and the fact that melody is what first grabs me about a new song; the lyrics are secondary. Because the "hook" is so paramount to me, it should be no surprise that The Beatles are my favorite artists. Who could write a melody better than Lennon & McCartney? Although music from the '60's is my overall favorite, I love music of all types (again, except Rap) and New Wave/Alternative from the '80's. I probably have a wee bit more musical knowledge than my friends, but compared to most of you I know very little, so please bear with me if I seem to ask a LOT of questions!

Chuck

Welcome aboard, Chuck! Don't be too hard on rap music. Like most art forms, a little bit of it is very good and a lot of it is crap, but it ain't ALL bad. :ohyes:

Welcome! Great taste in that "favorite artist" category.

Chuck / Melodyman, welcome to the wondeful world of ICE.

While I can certainly share your love of melody and music from an earlier time -- though I tend to gravitate more towards the '70s -- this band you mention...Beatles?

They don't have too many fans here, unfortunately. You won't see too many threads or debates about their music and their legacy. I know there was some to-do about something being "remastered" last year, but--

Hi Chuck, and welcome to ice! I also think melody is paramount; he who has the top tunes, basically wins. But give a little credit to rap and hip-hop, you will find inventive beats and sampling, and yes, melodic flows, too. Never mind what they rap about.

I'm pretty new around here myself. What is the background of ICE? Where was it before IMWAN? Is it an acronym?

Hi Duke, and welcome aboard! ICE had its own forum once, but it closed. ICE is the forum for the old CD collector's newsletter, ICE magazine. Many of us migrated to IMWAN in 2006 when the old forum was closed. IMWAN is the new home for ICE.

ICE stood for International CD Exchange back in the day.

Like Googa, said IMWAN is the home for ICE, but I don't think of it as "new" anymore. It's been nearly four years and it feels like I've always been here.

When I first saw ICE magazine about 20 years ago, I thought the "ICE" referred to diamonds, to connote that CD's were like precious diamonds.

Hey everyone,
I'm new, brought over here by Invisible Pedestrian, please don't hold that against me. :) I'm a metalhead and lover of all good music, especially classic rock & new wave/indie. I am also a huge music video fan, especially the older stuff. Looks like lots of good stuff going on here! Happy New Year!!
Cheers,
Doug

Welcome, Doug. :) Any friend of Pete's is a friend of ours. But please ... don't trash my poor Mets like he does. :)
