I wanna be your lover baby.....I wanna be your man

I left the song I was going to do this week at home, so this is a quick audible, and I only listed versions that I've heard......I'm sure there are many missing, but know the winner will come out of the above.

There's a version that Paul preforms during soundchecks that I love. He released a version of it on his Paul Is Live CD.

Earlier this year, Ringo was on Craig Ferguson and, along with a track from his new album, performed "I Wanna Be Your Man"...sounded great!...vocally, as well as drum wise. I picked the Beatles. I like the Stones version, but have always thought it was a little heavy and slow and not as exuberant.

The Stones' version sounds sort of ominous, like Mick Jagger is forcing himself upon the girl he's singing to. Ringo is too much of a gentleman to behave that way, of course, so I voted for The Beatles. :)

I voted for the Stones (surprise!), but I like Suzi Quatro's version--especially how she found it unnecessary to change the gender.

I voted for The Beatles too. They're my favorite band after all. The Stones' version while setting a different tone as Linda notes, is quite good as well.

Sir Pauly performed the song at The Ed Sullivan Theater in 1992 when he was taping "Up Close" for MTV.

I love the wild guitar solo in the Stones' version but The Beatles' version is always the first one I think of. Catchy, concise and a great early vehicle for Ringo.

My vote has to go to The Blue Aeroplanes, who perform a crackin' version of Dylan's "I Wanna Be Your Lover" (which was written as a take-off parody of the Beatles' "I Wanna Be Your Man")

I was going to say Dylan's "I Wanna Be Your Lover" - I was revisiting Biograph the last few days in the car, and considering all of its classics (what a GREAT collection), I probably repeated this song more often than others, and I have no defense as to why...

As for the actual song itself - have to go with the Beatles.

How about Prince's "I Wanna Be Your Lover?" A Beatles-loving friend of mine was convinced he got the idea from them. I'm not so sure, but with Prince who knows?

Ringo shines on the Beatles version.
