The more I listen to it over the years, the more I love Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow. I have the original RCA CD and the remaster, but I've never picked up the version that includes the whole album in mono. Is it worth it? This is not a really great recording to begin with, but if the mono version offers anything over the standard stereo, I'm in.
Anybody have the stereo + mono version? What do you think?

IMHO the mono is not essential unless you collect mono.

The Only Ja that I know that is significantly different in mono is Baxters, & that's mostly for the alternate Martha that's on the expanded Baxters stereo.
Unlike some of the Brits, the JA were very much a stereo band.

i have the gold disc with both stereo and mono, and i never listen to the mono version.
but i am not a mono person, i have the DCC "pet sounds" and i listen to the stereo sampler disc from the box set more than the DCC.

I agree on Pet even though Wilson obviously mixed in mono. Especially on the dvd-a, where Capitol went nuts with the compression, the stereo is better. The Hoffman mono isn't bad, though.

There's notably less reverb on the mono Surrealistic Pillow, so it's kinda interesting to hear for that reason. Some people complain the stereo mix is too echoey, but I like it myself.
