I defy any male here who was a teenager in the 1970s to state that he wasn't madly in love and in lust when "Love To Love You Baby" got fairly regular air play back in the day.

While I was not a disco person in the 70s, I still respected that voice and loved many of her hits especially "Love To Love You Baby".
Unlike some of our present day singers, Donna could actually sing without enhancements. Just a powerhouse.

Singer Donna Summer has died at the age of 63 following a battle with lung cancer.

A source revealed to TMZ that the five-time Grammy winner believed her illness was a result of inhaling toxic particles spread as a result of the 9/11 attack in New York City.

Summer reportedly wanted to keep her illness a secret from the public as she attempted to finish up an album.

The “Queen of Disco” found fame in the 1970s with mega-hits like “Last Dance” and “Hot Stuff.”

Summer, whose career continued well into the 1980s and 1990s with songs like ”She Works Hard for the Money” and “This Time I Know It’s for Real,” was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach the No. 1 spot on the U.S. Billboard chart.

In a statement to the Associated Press, her family says they ”are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.”

The singer is survived by her husband, singer Bruce Sudano, their two daughters and four grandchildren.

I also heard that she was a smoker for many years, though she quit several years ago.

I remember the stories that touted how many orgasms she allegedly had recording "Love To Love You Baby". Didn't need the hype - the lady could sing.

RIP.

I always thought of her as more than the disco queen. "Love To Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love" were very innovative, and different from a lot of radio fare. "Hot Stuff" rocked and the long version medley into "Bad Girls" was very nice. Non mega-hits like "Sunset People" and "Lucky" were also quite good.

R.I.P. to one of my wife's favorites.

So many iconic songs — "Love to Love You Baby," "I Feel Love," "Last Dance," "Hot Stuff," et al. There'll never be another singer like her. RIP, Donna.

I remember the late Pete Fornatale on NYC's prog giant WNEW-FM doing a righteous lecture about how Bad Girls was one of the greatest rock albums of 1979. Donna Summer seemed to get so little credit for being a pioneer in blending and blurring genres. Maybe now she finally will. RIP.

When I saw Donna dolled up as a disco hooker on the Bad Girls album cover, my reaction was this:

Excellent point. It was done so well that you don't really notice until someone points it out to you.

I think Donna's music holds up because she a great voice and great songs that were very well produced.

Rest in peace...

I believe I have the Bad Girls Deluxe Edition that Universal did a few years ago around the house somewhere, I'll need to dig it up.

From the first time I listened to it, I always thought of the album as a rock album! The follow-up album, The Wanderer, was even more rock, and was a brilliant "proper" follow-up (since the compilation "On The Radio" was released in between).

The single of hers that really made me take notice was "On The Radio". It remains one of my favorites.
She sure did have a lot of talent, and it's a shame she is dead so young.
Rest In Peace.

"One day in Berlin ... Eno came running in and said, 'I have heard the sound of the future.' ... he puts on 'I Feel Love', by Donna Summer ... He said, 'This is it, look no further. This single is going to change the sound of club music for the next fifteen years.' Which was more or less right."
--David Bowie

Donna Summer's classic singles weren't just dance-floor staples, they sounded great on the radio. Yes, even "MacArthur Park." I always loved synthesizer music, so I would blast the 12" single of "I Feel Love" on my college stereo. As Bowie said, it had a huge influence on both dance and new wave music. When I DJ'd dorm parties, "Last Dance" was always the closing number.

That's Jeff "Skunk" Baxter playing the guitar solo on "Hot Stuff," so of course it rocks. Still think it was the inspiration for Van Halen's contribution to Michael Jackson's "Beat It." The 12" medley of "Hot Stuff/Bad Girls" was another turntable favorite of mine.

Glad I got to see Summer in concert at Jones Beach some years ago. Her voice was still powerful.

RIP, Donna.

As I was reading through the other comments I was planning to mention how ahead of its time "I Feel Love" was, but I guess Eno beat me to it, and by a few decades too.

My sister and niece were the big Donna Summer fans of the family but her albums found their way to my stereo a time or two (...or three...)

So Eno was ahead of your time?
