FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Mark Sanchez was sharp in the New York Jets' first session of organized team activities open to the media, while backup Tim Tebow threw two interceptions in a three-play span.
While it's only May, and the Jets have made it clear that Sanchez is the starting quarterback, it was an encouraging performance. The play of the day was Sanchez's 80-yard toss to speedy second-round draft pick Stephen Hill.
Tebow, acquired in March to be Sanchez's backup, was picked off by Bart Scott and then newly signed Yeremiah Bell two plays later. Tebow, who also was used as the personal protector on the punt team, says he was running a new set of plays for the first time.

NFL to keep Pro Bowl despite this year’s poor play
After a promise from players that the game will be more competitive, the NFL will hold the Pro Bowl in Honolulu next Jan. 27, a week before the Super Bowl. Commissioner Roger Goodell had made it clear canceling the all-star game was a possibility after the uninspired play of this year’s 59-41 AFC victory. Following discussions between the league and the players’ union, the NFL announced Wednesday that Aloha Stadium would host the Pro Bowl for the third straight year. It will be the 33rd Pro Bowl in Hawaii. “The players have made it clear through the NFL Players Association that they would like the opportunity to continue to play the Pro Bowl in Hawaii,” said NFL executive vice president Ray Anderson. “We will support the players on this initiative to improve the Pro Bowl. We have had many discussions with the players in recent years about the Pro Bowl and they recognize that the quality of the game has not been up to NFL standards. We look forward to working with the players toward the goal of improving the competitiveness of this season’s game.”

Chad Ochocinco's new wife had no interest in taking a numerical last name, so the outspoken Miami Dolphins wideout is back to being just Chad Johnson.
OCNNReport.com reported Monday that Johnson officially changed his name back due in part to his marriage to Evelyn Lozada. The pair preferred Lozada's last name to be a real name rather than the gimmick last name Johnson had adopted several years ago, the report said.
Johnson changed his name on his popular Twitter account weeks ago not long after signing with the Dolphins.
"I'm refocused and locked in. Time to get back to the old me," he told ESPN.com by phone Monday, adding that his uniform will say 'Johnson.' "I'm just doing it for the marriage. It has nothing to do with football. Ochocinco is still in me. It's just my middle name."
The 34-year-old wideout has made mention of dropping the "Ochocinco" moniker several times previously, including during a January 2011 appearance on ESPN's "NFL Live." He also said before a regular-season game in January 2010 that he would change his name back to Johnson if Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis shut him down. After tweaking his knee in pregame warm-ups, he was held to zero catches for zero yards in the game. When the teams met again a week later in the playoffs, he had just two catches for 28 yards.
He kept his name but later said the comments were made in fun and he was never serious about a name change.
The wideout originally changed his legal surname from Johnson to Ochocinco before the 2008 season in order to wear his nickname on his jersey.
Johnson originally gave himself the Ocho moniker in 2006 as an allusion to his No. 85.
Johnson was a six-time Pro Bowler for the Cincinnati Bengals and averaged nearly 80 receptions for seven seasons. Ochocinco never lived up to those expectations following the name change, averaging just 51.75 receptions in four seasons, including a career-low 15 for the New England Patriots in 2011.
Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in June after being cut by New England.

I'd love to see a list of how many of these dirtbags have been arrested this offseason. I believe Detroit leads the way w/ 7 arrests so far. The NFL has so many problems right now (arrests, lawsuits, concussions, dropping attendance) it's amazing it still rules the sports world. It remains my #1, but I am having more and more of a disconnect from the players.

It still pales behind the NBA for attitude, arrests, selfishness, empty stadiums and prima donna behavior, so I'd say it still has a long way to go to fall out of favor for me.

Plus, there aren't nearly as many black guys in the NFL.
I know technically, she's a "scab ref", but I still think this is cool and long overdue for women. From ESPN.com:
A woman will be part of an NFL officiating crew for the first time Thursday night, the league confirmed Monday.
Shannon Eastin, who has been a referee in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, will work the preseason game between the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers (ESPN, 8 p.m. ET). The news had been reported earlier by The Los Angeles Times.
Eastin was not immediately available for comment.
A resident of Tempe, Ariz., Eastin also has won six national judo championships. She was the youngest judo athlete ever to train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, doing so when she was 11.
The NFL has begun using replacement referees this summer after locking out its permanent officials in a contract dispute.
The officiating team for the Hall of Fame Game Sunday night included officials who have worked college games and some professional games, such as in the Arena Football League.
By contrast, the first women to officiate any major U.S. professional sport occurred in the NBA in 1997.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

My God, preseason is already starting? I haven't been paying any attention.
At least the NFL has a good solid 6 month break between the Super Bowl and when preseason starts. NBA has 4 months. NHL has a week. And I jest. As a Rams fan, our season is usually over by Week 4, but this is the time of year for us when hope springs eternal and Ram fans try to convince me that all of the non-difference makers we signed in the off season will make a difference. Sign somebody who can play, not somebody who "adds depth" and "fills a need." The Rams have not been over .500 since 2003. This is 2012. That's absolutely pathetic and indicative of a garbage organization. At one place and time, we were in the same place as the NE Patriots. Look at the difference in the 2 organizations since.
