I'm looking for artists/groups that had 1 distinct style and then had a big change-over where you can look at the artist/group by different eras.
This could be gray area opinion....as I wouldn't necessarily count the Beatles of other groups that slowly evolved album by album as times changes.
I'll start
The Bee Gees - psychedelic/pop/ballads --> disco The Moody Blues - British Invasion R&B (Laine) --> prog/psychedelic (Heyward) The Kinks - 60s --> arena rock Steve Miller Band - psychedelic/blues jam band --> FM rock hits

Talking Heads did it a couple of times: tight new wave to African-inspired groove to FM-friendly pop.

Who - singles-oriented blues/R&B band to album/rock opera-oriented hard rockers (with "Rael" and "A Quick One" as intermediate steps) Would Kiss's transformation to a tribute band count? Alan

I agree on The Beatles. For me there was a pretty big change between Help & Rubber Soul; change was pretty much totally in place & more drastic with Revolver.

Zappa/Mothers were ever evolving and changing
Little Feat and canned Heat changed as their makeup changed
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band - had a lot of changes - blues based - Trout Mask Replica - to more acceptable
Alice Cooper
