Ike is apparently available too......

Report: Mets make Davis available

Ike Davis is available in trades, according to the Post's Joel Sherman.

Sherman tweets:

"Fascinating is #Mets r talking with suitors seriously about Ike Davis. #Rangers, #Pirates need 1B. Tex in particular is known to like Ike. Obviously, if traded, Davis would have to pass physical with ankle, but #Mets insist he is fully healthy. #Mets prioritty is if can get higher-ceiling plyrs for long-term anyone, but Wright, can go. Davis can do that more than Pelfrey or Murphy."

For the record, the Rays also need a power-hitting first baseman who costs little.

Gio Gonzalez is available from the A's, but they reportedly asked for Montero.
The Yankees have enough long term contracts.
Cashman will fill in his bench and bullpen when we get down to the 1-2 year deals.

Ramirez could be considered high-ceiling, I guess, but the others they've picked up so far? Come on. Sandy took both parts of a failed Jays set-up/closer combo, and Torres is the world's first .221 average leadoff hitter. :-( Even with Davis' ankle issues, how do we get higher ceiling than him for the same money? He'll be cheap for a few years yet.

It would be sweet if the Yankees could dump Burnett. I'd give the team that takes him up to $12 million.
I'm surprised the Mets would make Davis available. He's very popular, and one of the guys you could build around. I'd trade Wright before I traded Ike.

Buehrle has signed with The Marlins- 4 years, $58 million .

From the Lohud yankkes blog,

Also gaining some buzz is John Harper’s report that the Oakland asking price for Gio Gonzalez was Jesus Montero, Mason Williams and either Manny Banuelos or Dellin Betances. Yikes. Cashman said last night that there are pitching upgrades available, but only at prices that anyone would turn down. Looks like he’s right.

Yankees win rights to negotiate with Nakajima
Confirmed that the Yankees have won the right to negotiate with Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima. The 29-year-old hit .313/.389/.491 in four years in Japan, and he was posted this offseason.

Nakajima wasn’t a massive name on the international market, but he adds some middle infield and possibly utility depth behind Eduardo Nunez.

In theory, this could open the possibility of trading Nunez, but it also could give the Yankees a fairly young middle infielder to stash in Triple-A. Beyond Nunez and light-hitting Ramiro Pena, there isn’t a lot of shortstop depth in the system until you get all the way into the lowest levels with Cito Culver.

UPDATE, 12:46 p.m.: Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees will pay roughly $2 million as the posting fee.

The Mariners payroll is about 15 mil lower than it was 15 years ago. Until they start acting like the major market team they are they're going to keep sucking, & they're going to start losing $'s. Seattle tends to only support winning teams & the M's attendance has been dropping like flies the last couple years. While they have a lucrative tv contract now, when it's time for renewal they're not going to get big media $'s unless they start winning first.

As an example, while they're making noise about trying to sign Fielder, they're also talking about trading our young closer for prospects, because he'll be arbitration eligible next year. To the best of my knowledge, we have NO ONE in the system anywhere near closing other than League. With the loss of Fister & Bedard, & last year's decline of Vargas; our pitching staff is no longer a major strength. We have Felix, & after that............. there's Michael Pineda who had a good rookie system but has no long term track record, our closer Brandon League (who actually had his first dominant season last year also) who they're talking publicly about trading to save the little money he's making (little in baseball $'s that is) & nothing else except some highly regarded prospects who will be starting the year at aa & aaa.

And as the local media is fond of pointing out, current ownership has made a profit every year except 1, the taxpayers built them a stadium, & the team is said to have doubled in value since Nintendo bought it.

I thought the Cards would have wrapped up negotiations with Pujols once the Marlins backed out, but apparently not. Who the hell is this "mystery team"?

Sources: Albert Pujols, Angels agree

DALLAS -- Albert Pujols has agreed to a 10-year, $250 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Thursday.

The deal includes a full no-trade clause, which Pujols had been seeking and may have been a sticking point in his negotiations with the Miami Marlins.

Pujols had turned down an offer from the Cardinals, the only team he has ever played for, about a year ago, but St. Louis was still in the bidding as of Wednesday.

As a Mets fan I am upset that Reyes is gone , but we all saw it coming . They must keep Ike Davis . Even though he was hurt 90% of last season , he had a great 36 games .
I'm watching the MLB Network now and it's official Pujols is an Angel . I honestly thought Miami was gonna reel him in (pun intended) . They said the Cardinals will be erecting a Pujols statue outside of the stadium . That seems odd since he's still playing and just left them.

DALLAS -- The Angels have agreed to a contract with Albert Pujols, the best free agent available this offseason and arguably the greatest player of this era, sources told MLB.com on Thursday.

The deal, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network and Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, is for 10 years, includes a full no-trade clause and is worth between $250 million-$260 million. That would rival the record-setting 10-year, $275 million contract Alex Rodriguez signed with the Yankees in December 2007.

In addition, the Angels and left-hander C.J. Wilson, formerly of the Rangers, agreed on a five-year, $75 million deal, a source confirmed.

Angels spend $325 million
Marlins spend $191 miiliion

Can't complain about just the Yankees anymore.

You'd never know their was a recession in the baseball world. It is shocking that Pujols left the team that was his identity. Not sure if thats a smart move (since the Cardinals just won a WS) but it is all about the $$$ after all. One reason why I don't follow baseball like I once did. Greedy bastards.

I agree that the Mets should keep Ike Davis since I thought they wanted to go with young homegrown "future" stars. Ike could be a guy that stabilizes 1B for years.

The money is coming from television.
While baseball does not do huge national numbers, the local ratings for cable are very good.
The local cable sports channels need baseball.
Nobody watches those channels unless their team is playing, and the teams are starting to recognize this, and the fees are going up.

And revenue sharing.
The Marlins may have had $50-60 million sitting around from their share from the last 3-4 years.

The free-agent market for starting pitching is about to gain another significant asset. Japanese star pitcher Yu Darvish of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters will be posted for availability to Major League clubs, according to a tweet sent out early Thursday morning by Darvish's agent, Don Nomura.

Darvish's addition to the list of available starting pitchers has been the focus of much speculation in recent weeks, and it now appears he and his parent club are moving one step closer to turning rumor into reality. Once the posting is made, Major League clubs interested in Darvish will submit sealed offers to the Ham Fighters.

MLB.com really needs a better editor or something.
In Japan, teams are named after corporations, not cities.
The name of the team is the Fighters, they are owned by Nippon Ham.
There is no such thing as a Ham Fighter.

Rocky would have been a Ham Fighter if pigs were hanging in Paulie's meat packing plant instead of cows.
