We can only hope some the Mets minor league guys especially the pitchers pan out. But at some point the Wilpon's will have to put some $$$ into the team or Citifield will be a graveyard.

(No Howard and no Utley-both possibly half, if not all of the season-wow. This division is no longer just the Phillies', not through any fault of their own. Who will step up?)
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Chase Utley is doubtful for Opening Day because of problems with both knees.
That assessment comes Monday from general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. At first, the five-time All-Star second baseman was believed to have problems with just his right knee.
Utley hasn't played in a game this spring because of his condition, which forced him to miss all of last spring and the first 46 games of the regular season. He is leaving camp to see a specialist.
The Phillies already are without first baseman Ryan Howard. The former MVP is recovering from surgery on his left Achilles and is unlikely to return before June.

The injuries give the Braves and Marlins a chance to get some head room over the Phillies. But I still think the Phillies are the eventual NL East winner (or at worst Wild Card).

The pressure on the Wilpons will only increase from here on out. If the team doesn't get its act together by next year (I give this year another pass), then I would imagine it will get ugly.

My team finished better than one of the teams you cited, and although I am not picking the Nats to win, I believe we are in the mix, too.

Just read that Joba Chamberlain dislocated his ankle and had surgery yesterday.

Poor Joba. This could be a career ending injury.

Although I should mention (for honesty's sake) that the Nats are also "competing" with the Phillies as far as injuries go. Michael Morse may start the season in Syracuse rather than Washington. (I wonder if I should root for the Orangemen in the NCAA basketball playoffs to support the town of my AAA afilliate?)

Please don't remind me; this is probably Jack Z's worst all time trade.

Although I wouldn't compare losing Morse to Howard and Utley, I have had Morse on my NL fantasy team for 2 years now and need him to play. I've heard he was getting blood platelet injections for this stupid lat strain the Nats have been in denial about. He'd be on the DL, not AAA (but might do a rehab assignment). What is the prognosis there as for how long he may be out? This sucks! I do have Bernardina as well but that barely counts.

It appears that the injury to Chamberlain may not be career-ending. Cashman stated that Joba told him the doctors said he might be back on the mound by July, but they will be cautiously opimistic.
Ryan Madson will have Tommy John surgery and be lost to the Reds for the year.

Relievers are going down at an alarming rate. Soria Madson Storen?
It makes Mo's career even more spectacular.

We've set the date for the Boston trip with Smiff as May 12th so all Boston area ICEers are invited to some CD browsing and brunch that day. Jimbo and I will drive up in the morning and get there around 1PM.

May not see him until September, but this is probably the best move they've made this off-season. Quote: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/p ... ng#commentAlderson confirms Young returningSandy Alderson said Chris Young will be rejoining the organization on a minor league deal, 10 months after surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in the right-hander's pitching shoulder. Young is due to fly to New York on Tuesday, where he will be examined by team doctor David Altchek, who performed the procedure last May 16. The GM expects Young will be in Port St. Lucie by Tuesday evening and report to work the following morning. I really liked him before he got hurt.
