Dickey throws back-to-back 1-hitters! Not too shabby.

R.A. Dickey is the best pitcher in baseball. He should start the All-Star Game.

Dickey has just been tremendous this season, thank goodness the Mets signed him up for the next few years. He is now 11-1 and struck out a career high 13 tonight.

NEW YORK (AP) R.A. Dickey became the first major league pitcher in 24 years to throw consecutive one-hitters and Ike Davis hit a grand slam to lead the New York Mets past the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 on Monday night.

Coming off a one-hit gem at Tampa Bay last Wednesday, the knuckleballer struck out a career-high 13 and allowed only Wilson Betemit's clean single in the fifth inning.

The previous pitcher to throw consecutive one-hitters was Dave Stieb for Toronto in September 1988, according to STATS LLC. The Mets said the last to do it in the National League was Jim Tobin with the Boston Braves in 1944, according to research by the Elias Sports Bureau.

The 37-year-old Dickey (11-1) walked two and became the first 11-game winner in the majors.

R.A. Dickey was allowed to walk by the Mariners. Growl.

btw...I didn't watch the game, who got the 1 hit by the Orioles and when did it happen?? Dickey flirts with a no-hitter every night.

The Yankees win their 10th straight. All ten wins have been against teams with >.500 records.

Wilson Betemit with 2 outs in the 5th......clean single to right-center.......no debate this time.

Dickey hasn't allowed an earned run in 42 2/3rd innings

I feel slightly better about the Nats losing a game to this guy. It wasn't just us.

Dickey's last 6 starts:
6-0
1 ER in 48.2 innings
21 hits and 5 walks given up, with 63 strikeouts.
Simply amazing.

His next start is Sunday against the Yankees with Sabathia. That should be a good one.

The Mets have a 50/50 shot of winning that one. By then the Yankee streak could be 14.

A local Seattle area sportswriter's comment on Dickey, made in the last 10 minutes in response to my sharing some of this info,

"He’s one of the five best people I’ve ever dealt with covering baseball."

The Mets have a few of the nicest guys in baseball including Dickey and Ike Davis and Jason Bay.

Dickey's ERA right now is 2.00.

As if an 11-1 record with a 2.00 ERA isn't impressive enough, it's scary to think how much better his numbers would be had he not pitched that rainy April game in Atlanta where he gave up 8 earned runs in 4-1/3 innings. He's such a pleasure to watch on the mound, and he's enjoyable to listen to after his starts, with eloquent commentary and analysis. I can't imagine anyone not liking this guy, even his opponents. He's like the anti-Roger Clemens.

99 IP - 4.3 IP = 94.66667 IP

22 ER - 8 ER = 14 ER

14 ER in 94 2/3 IP = 1.33 ERA

Thanks for those calculations, Alan. Those are some sick numbers. Obviously there's no way he can keep up that pace all year, but if he can just put up similar numbers to the last two seasons through September (which were excellent but not mind-blowing), he'll be in the running for the Cy Young. It's so much fun watching him pitch.

I picked him up for my fantasy team, right before these six starts.

That's great timing on your part. In my fantasy league this week I'm playing against the guy who has him :sigh:
