This disappeared so quick this year I forgot about it. But my friend and his wife went on vacation in Maine this week (and saw Wilco at a Music Pier as well-they said it was great), and they found a case. They gave me a few cans and, wow. Real sugar is used and it tastes like vintage fountain soda! How could they have pulled this already? It's awesome! That's right-natural sugar baby!
I need to score me some more but fast. :yay:

I was never able to find any of it around here at all. I'd love to have had the opportunity to try it.

I've searched for it for weeks with no luck.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that making artificial sweetener from corn is more profitable than using actual sugar. Apparently, we have to import sugar, while we can make HFCS ourselves.

Farm subsidies also make corn way cheaper than it should be.

I really meant to pick up a case of this stuff awhile back but I didn't for some stupid reason.

I regret it.

Some politicians argue against using corn to make fuel for cars because doing so would not leave enough corn left over for food. Oddly, no one mentions how much corn is used to manufacture HFCS.

A regular offering at the local Costcos is imported Mexican Coca-Cola. It appeals to both the hipsters who want cane sugar and the green glass bottle, as well as the HUGE Hispanic population north of Seattle.

I bought a case of the stuff once, and it was like I remembered from visiting Mexico as a kid. Just a hint of spice to it.

With the huge post-Katrina infusion of Hispanics in the area, we have Mexican restaurants and diners popping up everywhere. Great food, and some stock Mexican Coke.

If you haven't yet, be sure to try a Burrito Verde sometime. By far, my favorite authentic Mexican dish.

I was lucky to find one case when it came out, but my boyfriend drank most of then before I did.
The two cans I had were good, but I'm not that big of a fan of Pepsi.

I did it. I just ordered a 12 pack of this elusive delight from an Ebay seller. There are several of them - if anyone else has the cola monkey on their back. I paid $18 including priority mail shipping for the sweet contraband. That works out to $1.50 per can - I rationalized that this is the going rate for a glass of Pepsi in a neighborhood restaurant, so why not? My secret plan is to have this stuff smuggled to my front door by Saturday so there can be a Throwback BBQ on Sunday.

DanO:
You clever monkey, you. I didn't even think that some vultures on Ebay would pounce on this. I have one can left and I want to preserve it for the ages.
I found out Pepsi only made these available for a 2 month period this spring ending in May. But if my friend bought a case in maine this weekend there's got to be some around somewhere else on the East Coast. Only 8-10 markets even got this stuff. Maybe there will be a second manufacturing by the Pepsi plant? We can only hope. But I tell you, it was sweet nectar from the soda Gods I drank last night.

I had some real sugar Pepsi (not Throwback) during the Passover season and yes, it does taste like a cola product should taste.

Also had the sugar Coke that was available. It really does blow away HFCS.

Mountain Dew had a throwback version and I noticed no difference. However, I live near the original Dr. Pepper plant and they distribute a version in a bottle with pure cane sugar and there is a HUGE difference. I don't even drink the regular Dr. Pepper and I am ADDICTED to this stuff. I believe it is only distributed within a certain distance from the plant, however.

You can buy the Dublin Dr. Pepper online (although I've never done so myself.)

I like the Pepsi Throwback, even though my better half thinks it tastes like "a flat Pepsi". It goes down great ice-cold.

Pete, have you tried looking at convenience stores? The 7-11 in my neighborhood has dozens of the 20 oz. bottles of Pepsi Throwback left in their cooler, priced at 99 cents each, to boot!

The mini-mart at the BP station down the road has some bottles in stock, also, and a sign on their cooler announcing "For a limited time only -- Pepsi Throwback and Mt. Dew Throwback". I haven't been able to find the retro Dew anywhere, however, but would love to try it !!
