(CNN) -- Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and singer-song artist Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein were in critical condition with extensive burns Saturday after a jet crash the night before that killed four people, authorities said.

Two of the four who died late Friday were passengers and two were crew members, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement.

The NTSB has sent a Go Team to Columbia, South Carolina, to investigate the crash.

The Learjet 60 crashed on takeoff at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport at 11:53 p.m. Friday.

Beth Frits, spokeswoman at the Joseph Still Burn Center, in Augusta, Georgia, said Barker and Goldstein arrived at the hospital early Saturday. She said both men had "extensive burns."

Barker and Goldstein had played at a huge free outdoor concert in Columbia's Five Points district on Saturday night, CNN affiliate WIS-TV said.

Other acts at the concert included Perry Farrell, former of Jane's Addiction, and singer Gavin DeGraw, Columbia Mayor Bob Coble told The Associated Press.

Representatives for Farrell and DeGraw told AP they were not on the plane.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the twin-engine, private jet was cleared for takeoff on a flight to Van Nuys, California, and began its takeoff roll a few minutes before midnight.

Air traffic controllers "saw sparks coming from the runway -- whether that was from the aircraft or its engines, we don't know," Bergen said Saturday.

The jet left the ground but crashed near the end of the runway on a road adjacent to the airport, she said.
There were no other aircraft on the runway and no vehicles on the road, Bergen said.

William Owens told WIS-TV he was driving down Highway 302 when he said he saw a fireball go across the road.

"I didn't know what I had seen -- it was maybe 800 feet in front of me, but as I approached it closer though, I made out a fire. By then I was able to see the tail of the jet and I recognized it as a jet," Owens said.

Owens told the station he tried to get to the wreckage.

"It's in flames and the fuel is running across the road and I had to cross the fuel to get to the two guys that seemed to have been dumped on the highway," Owens said.

Owens told WIS-TV the two men were running around and pulling off clothing to put out the flames. He said he asked them if anyone else was on board the plane and they said four people were with them.

"We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do," Owens said.

The Five Points Association has released a statement saying that they are "deeply saddened by this event and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's and their families," WIS reported.

Officials told the station the airport will be closed until noon.

Crew in Barker/DJ AM plane crash died of burns and smoke

Sep 22, 2008

The causes of death of the victims of the Learjet crash in South Carolina on Saturday range from burns to the impact, according to reports.

The two crew in the plane- pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31 and co-pilot James Bland, 52- died within minutes of the crash from smoke inhalation and burns, while Chris Baker, 29 and Charles Still, 25 died from the impact of the crash.

Former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein survived the crash after they managed to jump out of the plane within seconds of the crash. The pair are currently in critical but stable condition at a Georgia hospital and are being treated for first and second degree burns. Doctors say they are expected to make a full recovery.

According to the Associated Press, the pilots were burned on their entire bodies, but the post-mortem was not able to establish if they were conscious in the minutes before their deaths.

Travis Barker and DJ AM slid down plane wing to escape

Sep 23, 2008

Travis Barker and Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein managed to escape the burning Learjet wreckage last weekend by sliding down a wing on the right side of the plane, it has been revealed.

According to police officer Josh Shumpert of the South Congaree Police Department, the pair told him they were on fire as they jumped from the doomed jet and that they had to tackle one another to extinguish the flames that left them both with second and third-degree burns.

Shumpert, who was the second person to arrive at the scene of the crash, said that Barker and Goldstein said they “slid down the wing on the right side of the plane. They said they were on fire, and that they tackled each other and put each other out."

Shumpert tells people.com that the pair were pacing on the side of the road and were in shock, particularly Barker.

He also said they were both wearing shorts, and that Barker was wearing a hat.

Barker and Goldstein were taken to Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors' Hospital in Augusta, GA and were treated for their burns. The pair did not suffer from any other injuries and doctors expect them to make a full recovery.

DJ AM released from hospital after plane crash

Sep 26, 2008

Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein has been released from hospital in Augusta, GA after being treated for six days for burns he suffered in a plane crash.

Goldstein was a passenger on a Learjet 60 that crashed during takeoff from a South Carolina airport just after midnight last Saturday (September 20).

Former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker also managed to escape the burning wreckage. Barker is currently being treated for burns at the same hospital, and is expected to remain there for two more weeks, according to his friend Jermaine Dupri.

"While he is deeply saddened by the events, he is thankful for all of the love and support he has been receiving from fans and friends worldwide," Goldstein’s rep, Jenni Weinman, said in a statement. "We ask that you continue to respect his privacy as he rests and heals and mourns the loss of his friends."

Blink-182's Travis Barker speaks about plane crash

Oct 8, 2008

Blink 182's Travis Barker has spoken about his plane crash ordeal, saying he is "grateful to be here" after suffering burns after a Lear jet he was in crashed last month.

The drummer's plane crashed in South Carolina on September 20, with four passengers losing their lives and DJ Adam Goldstein suffering burns along with Barker in the accident.

Barker and Goldstein have since been released from hospital.

"I hate planes," Barker told US Weekly. "My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened, well, I'm just thankful to be alive. I'm just grateful to be here at all."

The drummer was too afraid to travel in an aeroplane following his release from hospital, so travelled by bus to his Los Angeles home. He is receiving treatment in a burns centre in the city.

"I am doing the best I can possibly be," he said. "I'm so anxious to get out of here. I've just been in surgery after surgery. I have third-degree burns basically from my feet up to my waist and both hands.

"One of my hands has second-degree burns and one has third-degree burns. I'm trying to have a quick recovery and play the drums again, and be able to hold my kids again."

Barker is expected to be released from the burns centre in around two weeks.

Damn. That really stinks for him.

He IS lucky to be alive. At a recent camping trip near here two kids were burned pretty badly, about the same level of injuries. One didn't make it.

Blink-182 man blogs about plane crash recovery

Oct 13, 2008

Blink 182's Travis Barker has been blogging extensively about his recovery experiences after surviving a deadly plane crash last month.

The drummer, who is being treated for burns at a Los Angeles hospital, praised the hospital staff and said he is looking forward to being able to return to his kids.

"Like the doctors said from the beginning, its been a slow recovery process," he wrote. "I am coming up on the 7th of my surgeries Monday. Today I finally was able to move all my fingers on my right hand. Every step seems huge at this point, and I'm doing EVERYTHING I can possibly do to get back to my kids."

"Yes, I did start eating meat again, but if it helps me to be home holding my little humans sooner, then its all worth it. The staff here are all bomb!"

Barker also thanked his friends and fans for their support during the difficult time, and paid tribute to his assistant Chris Baker and Charles 'Che' Still, who died in the September 20 South Carolina crash.

"I want to give my deepest thanks to everyone who has helped deal with the current situation. First and foremost, Chris and Che were my friends. I would give up anything to have them here with us today, healthy and happy. To call them my employees does them such a disservice, as they were so much more than that. Chris was my best friend before anything else, and I can never put into words how much he will be missed. Che was an amazing person as well, and I was honored to have him in my life.

"I am simply amazed and will be forever grateful for all the support everyone has shown to Chris and Che's families. It's a testament to how many lives they touched in a positive way."

The MySpace blog also features photos of Barker in his hospital bed.

Blink-182 man says he's ready to leave the hospital

Oct 17, 2008

Blink 182's Travis Barker said today that he expects to soon leave the Los Angeles hospital where he's being treated for burns following last month's deadly plane crash.

Writing today (October 17) on his MySpace blog, the drummer said he's looking forward to getting back home to his kids, and posted pictures of his hospital visitors.

"Just another quick one to let everyone know that I think I'm getting out of the hospital soon :) I can't wait to get out of here and be home with the babes. The doctors say I'm healing up quickly and I'm gonna be out of here b4 you know it," he said.

"The staff here is THE BEST, but this is what I have to say to hospital life," he wrote above a photo of his middle finger.

He also thanked the people who came to visit him in his hospital bed, including Game, Sticks, his father, and "Yoko from Matsuhisa (MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT!) brought some food in for us. She is such a sweetheart and so nice to take the time to bring me some rad food."

Blink-182 man released from hospital following plane crash

Oct 20, 2008

Blink 182's Travis Barker has been released from the Los Angeles area hospital where he was being treated for burns following a September 19 plane crash.

The 32-year-old drummer was released from Sherman Oaks' Grossman Burn Center, and is now recovering at home. Barker has requested privacy while he continues to recover, reports E! Online.

Barker, who often blogged about his hospital experiences, sustained second- and third-degree burns in the plane crash that killed four people.

Barker was one of two survivors of the Learjet crash in South Carolina, along with DJ AM (Adam Goldstein). Goldstein gave his first performance since the crash alongside Jay-Z in LA last week, as previously reported.

Barker and Goldstein are both expected to make a complete recovery. An investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.

Aircrash Blink-182 drummer back playing drums

Nov 17, 2008

Former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker is back in the studio after being involved in a plane crash in September.

As previously reported Barker was involved in plane crash with celebrity record spinner and bandmate DJ AM.

They were the only two survivors of the crash in South Carolina, and both were left badly burned from the incident.

However, speaking to MTV News, Barker revealed in his first on camera interview since the crash that he is on the mend.

He thanked everyone for their support and said: "I'm already playing my drums again, and I'm already back in the studio."

Barker added: "It was like riding a bike. It was really exciting to know I still have my chops. It still felt good. I still can make it around the kit. Everything felt right, so I'm thankful to be able to play."

Barker's former Blink 182 bandmate and current +44 member Mark Hoppus said he expects the drummer will be better soon and will return to music.

Hoppus said: "He can't not drum, you know? The man was born to sit behind a drumkit and do his thing."

Cockpit recordings released from Blink-182 man, DJ AM aircrash

Nov 19, 2008

The cockpit recording from the September aircrash involving former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity record spinner DJ AM has been released.

In the recording, the plane's pilot can be heard warning air traffic controllers that his plane was "going off the end of the runway" just before the plane crashed, killing four of the six people on board.

Co-pilot James Bland was also heard asking for emergency vehicles to be summoned, reports the Associated Press. "Roll the equipment, we're going off the end," he said.

Controllers responded by directing other airplanes to steer clear of the site. "We've had an emergency, just fly straight ahead," a controller told another pilot, who responded, "We see it down there. It doesn't look good."

Blink-182's Travis Barker sues after plane crash

Nov 22, 2008

Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker is suing two companies for damages following the plane crash he was involved in.

Barker was injured in a plane crash in South Carolina in September in which four people died.

The drummer has since sued Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, which owned the Learjet which crashed, and an aeroplane maintenance company, reports Fox News.

He is seeking $25,000 (£17,000) in damages for pain and suffering, disfigurement, loss of earnings plus medical and legal expenses.

Thelma Martin Still, the mother of Charles Monroe Still Jr, Barker's bodyguard who was killed in the crash, is joining the drummer in the lawsuit. She is suing for damages including grief and sorrow and funeral expenses.

In the lawsuit the pair claim that the plane's pilots were not properly trained and that the Learjet was "defective".

Blink-182's Travis Barker defends plane crash lawsuit

Nov 25, 2008

Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker has defended the lawsuit he has instigated following the plane crash he was involved in recently.

Barker was injured in the crash in South Carolina in September, in which four people died. He has since sued the companies who owned the aircraft for $25,000 (£17,000).

"I wouldn't have been in the state I was in if I wasn't in the crash," he told Eonline.com. "I wouldn't have third degree burns all over my body or be prohibited to do certain things. I can't go swimming. I can't do some of the things that normal people can do.

"I didn't ask for that to happen. I just think positive. If something goes wrong that's not supposed to go wrong or you fall victim of it, I think you should be compensated.

"I lost two friends in the accident. Nothing can bring them back or what I lost in the accident."

Following the crash and Barker's recovery, his Blink-182 bandmate Mark Hoppus has hinted that the band may reform. They split in 2005.

Victim's wife seeks damages from dead pilots estates in Barker-DJ AM plane crash

Dec 10, 2008

The wife of Travis Barker’s assistant has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles seeking damages from the estates of the two pilots who died in the crash, as well as several aviation companies.

Otilia Villar Baker lost her husband Chris Baker in the crash that killed four people in September. Former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein suffered severe burns, after escaping the burning wreckage of the plane.

The suit in Los Angeles Superior court, alleges negligence and wrongful death, reports the Associated Press, and says the aviation companies are partly to blame for the September 19 crash.

The suit seeks damages from the estates of the two pilots, Sarah Lemmon, 31 and James Bland, 52, who perished in the crash.

Baker is seeking damages for pain and anguish her husband suffered before his death, as well as loss of earnings, and more.

Travis Barker also sued the aviation companies last month.

DJ AM files lawsuit following deadly plane crash

Dec 27, 2008

Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein has filed a lawsuit against companies and the pilots he alleges were involved in the deadly September plane crash that claimed the lives of everyone on board except Goldstein and Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker.

Goldstein filed his complaint for negligence and breach of contract Tuesday (December 23) in Los Angeles Superior Court, reports the Associated Press. In the suit he names several companies and the estates of the two pilots, who both died in the crash.

The suit reportedly does not specify the amount he hopes to receive for damages including pain and suffering, medical expenses and loss of wages. It does, however, seek a trial by jury.

The cause of the South Carolina crash has not yet been determined, but it is suspected that a faulty tire may have played a role in the crash. The lawsuit names Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co, which responded that it was premature to speculate on what role tires may have played.

Barker has also filed lawsuits on behalf of the families of his bodyguard and assistant, who were killed in the crash.

The duo are set to perform their first show together since the crash on New Year's Eve (December 31) in Los Angeles under the moniker TRVSDJAM, as previously reported.

Plane crash victim DJ AM sues for $20 million
Adam Goldstein seeks damages after last year's tragedy

March 17, 2009
http://www.nme.com/news/blink-182/43507

Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein is suing several companies for a total of $20 million following the September 2008 plane crash that killed four people.

Goldstein and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker escaped the burning wreckage of a Learjet that crashed during takeoff in South Carolina.

Goldstein is seeking $10 million to cover his medical expenses, which included several skin grafts for the burns he suffered. He is also looking to cover lost earnings and profits. He is seeking a further $10 million to compensate his mental and physical trauma, reports the Associated Press.

As previously reported, Goldstein filed his complaint for negligence and breach of contract in December in Los Angeles Superior Court.

In the suit he names several companies and the estates of the two pilots, who both died in the crash. The lawsuit names Goodyear Tire And Rubber Co, which responded that it was premature to speculate on what role tires may have played. He is also suing Learjet.

Several companies have requested a delay in the trial until the completion of a government investigation into the crash.

Pilot transcript released in DJ AM, Travis Barker crash
Files show they knew they were going to crash

August 7, 2009
http://www.nme.com/news/blink-182/46570

Image

The transcript has been released of a conversation between the two pilots of the Learjet that crashed in South Carolina last year, leaving Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein as the sole survivors.

The file indicates that pilot Sarah Lemmon and her co-pilot James Bland heard a series of clicking noises during take-off from Columbia Metropolitan Airport on the night of September 19, 2008.

"What was that?" Bland asked. "I don't know," Lemmon said. "We're not going though." Lemmon then reportedly slammed on the brakes and one of the pilots said: "What is going on here?", reports the Associated Press.

Bland then instructed the airport to alert its emergency services saying: "Roll the equipment, we're going off the end."

The plane tore through a fence at the end of the runway, crossed a highway and slammed into an embankment. The plane caught fire and four people died, including both pilots.

Barker and Goldstein escaped from the burning plane and were treated for burns.

Ex-Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker's lawsuit against companies involved in the plane crash he was involved in in September last year has been settled.

The defendants of the lawsuit included the Learjet company, who made the aeroplane that crashed with him on board, as well as Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.

Lawyer William L Robinson, representing some of the defending companies, said the case was settled and the details were confidential, reports Billboard.

DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, also survived the crash, although four people died in it. Goldstein died of a suspected overdose in August.

The plane crash which involved Blink-182's Travis Barker and DJ AM was caused by "under-inflated tyres", reports the Associated Press.

The accident which killed four people back in 2008, left the drummer and DJ - real name Adam Goldstein, seriously injured.

Talking to the National Transportation Safety Board yesterday (April 6), investigators revealed that they estimated the last time the pressure in the plane's tires had been checked was three weeks before the crash, when after eight days the tyres would have needed changing.

As previously reported, last year Barker settled a lawsuit with Learjet and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, who were both involved in the accident.

While Barker and Goldstein were the only survivors in the crash, Goldstein died of a drug overdose a year after the incident.
