Bonus Video = Small Faces – Whatcha Gonna Do About It, #14 for 1 wk in Oct 65.
The Small Faces spunk era begins (nice)… Couldn’t find a video from 1965 with Jimmy Winston, this is a few months later in 1966 with Ian McLagan…

Bonus Video = The Silkie – You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away, #28 for 1 wk in Oct 65.
Beatle song, the Beatles actually assisted them in recording it, it reached the Top 10 in the States. There were oodles of Beatle covers in the UK in the mid 60s, as we’ll see in the weeks ahead…

Bonus Video = Lulu – Tell Me Like It Is, released Oct 65, didn’t chart, ugh.
2 weeks after her last minor hit dropped out of the Top 30, she quickly tried again but to no avail. BBC documents indicate she wasn’t even invited onto Top of the Pops to perform it !

Decca seemed to have no idea how to capitalise on the success of "Shout". It's a real shame. Just about every track she did for the label was single-worthy, IMO.

8. Hedgehoppers Anonymous – It’s Good News Week, #4 for 1 wk in Oct 65.
Jonathan King wrote and produced this, one of his many projects over the years, including Genesis and the Bay City Rollers. 1 of 2 anti-war songs in the Top 10 this week.

8. Matt Monro – Yesterday, #7 for 1 wk in Nov 65.
For whatever reason, the Beatles didn’t release this as a single in the UK,
so Matt, who was on the same record label, took the ball and ran with it…

7. The Seekers – The Carnival Is Over, #1 for 3 wks in Nov/Dec 1965.

A monster hit, the 4th biggest selling record of the year, written by Dusty Springfield’s brother Tom, as were most of their hits. They also worked with Paul Simon in 1965 before he reunited with Garfunkel in 1966, covering Simon’s “Some Day, One Day” for their 4th UK hit single (Simon’s first songwriting hit). And guitarist Bruce Woodley co-wrote 3 songs with Simon, “Cloudy”, “I Wish You Could Be Here” (a must listen), and the Cyrkle song “Red Rubber Ball”. Melt my heart, Judith Durham…

Bonus Video: Small Faces – I’ve Got Mine, from Nov 1965, didn’t chart, ugh. The verse instrumental riff showed up later in 1968 on the Ogdens’ LP title song. This clip from the movie Dateline Diamonds...

Wow...I don't think I'd seen any footage with Jimmy Winston before. It's weird seeing them with 2 guitarists.
